"Likely"..?

C'mon...

Maybe someone will put it in a box in 'Murica, so they can slap a "USA! USA! USA! Made with 100%' Murican hate sticker on it

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It could be made somewhere else, maybe South Korea or Vietnam?

It certainly won't be in the US.

[–] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 44 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Wow, sure would be nice if instead or normalizing this blatant Constitutional violation we continued to call it out for the illegal grift that it is.

Like the watches? The crypto? The hotel rooms for officials? The $5M resident visa? It's like they're using the Emoluments Clause as a guide, and nobody cares anymore.

Who is they? And what can we realistically do about it? 12 million of us were out marching in the streets but it’s not helping. I’m not trying to be pessimistic but I’m seriously at a loss.

[–] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 1 points 1 week ago

If peaceful protest isn’t getting results, perhaps we need to step that up.

How about everyone who isn't a huge piece of shit moves up to Canada, then we wait for the husk of America to instigate something (shouldn't take long). At that point the rest of the world invades America and splits it up.

It's a perfect plan, everyone knows you need to break a few million eggs to make an omelet 🙂

Hey, if you have a way for me to legitimately immigrate there, I’m all ears. But I have no family, can’t claim asylum, and would need a job to sponsor me otherwise.

Felon President! King of criminals!

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 35 points 1 week ago

No, they said it'll be made in the USA and they wouldn't lie and we definitely have the infrastructure to build it and for sure we can do that and still hit a low price of $500 when premium brands like the iPhone 16e cost even more despite being manufactured in the best electronics manufacturing environment hub in the entire world, China.

Why is everyone so critical of a lying grifter selling a bullshit product with a bullshit service that's clearly full of lies? Everyone is being too hard on him. Remember when tariffs were imposed on everyone and now all iPhones are made in the USA and our industrial manufacturing bounced back to wear it was before the 1980s? Cause that happened.

You can't cure stupid. Stop trying.

When these are out, I wouldn't be surprised non-Apple, non-Samsung phone brands start getting outlawed.

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I think outlawed is less likely. Probably insanely taxed so only the wealthy can afford them. Everyone else needs to use the Palantir T1 mobile spying device or else

[–] ClanOfTheOcho@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Very specific exceptions in tariff policies coming in 3... 2... 1...

[–] makyo@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Is there anywhere else those things are made? Seriously asking.

[–] zewm@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

https://nerdytechblog.com/are-samsung-phones-made-in-china/

Samsung seems to be made in South Korea and Vietnam primarily.

[–] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not to post a ref from that other site, but all the mobile nerds have yet to migrate. It's a Schok Volt SV69 5G likely, rebranded. Retail $149. US company, Chinese fab. They'll probably call it "made in the USA" for putting a plastic gold shell on it stateside.

The backing carrier is T-Mobile, although it seems the backing MVNO provider is Liberty Wireless, which is a T-Mobile MVNO. (Virtual cell carrier powered by the backing network.) T-Mobile allowed Liberty, and via that, this one.

For US-ians, it would be worth considering a carrier that isn't based on T-Mobile the next time people are looking for cell plans. (In addition, T-Mobile is in bed with Muskrat Starlink for their mediocre sat-to-cell service, and also T-Mobile leveraged Mango's first term to buy their way ahead of the competition in 5G spectrum.)

Thanks for the information. I'm going to be shopping for a phone soon and I've been using Metro PCS. I guess I'll be looking at other options.

But not surprising.

[–] Mihies@programming.dev 3 points 1 week ago

It started with MAGA hats made in PRC.

[–] Decq@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Is it still irony if its expected to be fraudulent?

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Is irony dependent onto he audience?

His cult will believe the made in the USA sticker that gets slapped on them, so from their perspective finding out should be irony.

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

[–] pticrix@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Does it come preloaded with TeleMessage and a direct connection to Kegseth? I need them bombing plans.

Preliaded with Signal and Truth but Xitter will be blocked.

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Or India. That's possible.

[–] MyOpinion@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago

But Apple has to make their phone in the USA. Humm?

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 1 points 1 week ago

Well yeah, that's obviously what "designed and built in the US" means, no? /s
