Phl spencer pointed out last gen was the worst to lose because of digital game libraries
Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!
How voting works:
Vote the opposite of the norm.
If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.
Guidelines:
Tag your post, if possible (not required)
Rules:
1. NO POLITICS
Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.
2. Be civil.
Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...
Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.
5. No trolling.
This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.
6. Defend your opinion
This is a bit of a mix of rules 4 and 5 to help foster higher quality posts. You are expected to defend your unpopular opinion in the post body. We don't expect a whole manifesto (please, no manifestos), but you should at least provide some details as to why you hold the position you do.
Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

As a console I agree completely, Xbox is pretty much done unless they succeed with Handheld and "opening up the ecosystem" (however it is they are supposed to make money off of that).
As a PC/PS5/Switch gamer, I've given more money to Xbox than I've given to Sony or Nintendo the last 2 years. Steam key resellers have gotten most of my money but Game pass for PC has been compelling recently.
I'm not sure how profitable it is, but the service is currently good.
Yeah PS5 has killed consoles for me I think. I have always had a Playstation, but when I got a Steamdeck and I was able to play every game ever and online was free. It showed me Playstation's major limitations. Then they released that terrible Steamdeck like controller with the screen where you could only stream games to it from your PS5 and it was super expensive. Sony is out of touch with what consumers want.
I've been super disapointed by the PS5. Games sucked and I basically only played my PS4 games on it. I'll build a PC now before I buy another console.
I like everything about the PS5 better: I LOVE the controller, UI, games play awesome on the machine and in general I prefer their more story-entered games BUT PS+ straight up sucks, there's nothing on there for me and its outrageously priced. Xbox on the other hand still runs great, everything about the controller and UI is just fine but game pass rules. Its also overpriced but at least they have a massive catalogue of games I actually want to try.
I forgot to mention the controller! God I wish those haptics took off, the tech is really cool. I worry that Sony will abandon it as an experiment that didn't take off.
Agreed, as a lifelong PS fanboy. The only redeeming quality is that I can play my PS4 disks on my PS5, other than that XB seems better in every way
Idk man. I bought a ps5 2 years ago when that Harry Potter game came out. Mainly for my gf because she’s a pothead or whatever those fans are called. She was disappointed by the game because it was boring and repetitive and, if not for the universe, it would be a very bad game. She’s only played about 3 games up to that point in her life.
But other than that, the 2 ps5 exclusives I played have been fun. I’m using the controller for ps2 emulation on Mac ever since. Love it since I’ve installed HALL sticks
Admittedly I enjoyed Astrobot and Demon's Souls a lot, and didn't buy an Xbox series console. But the other exclusives have been few and far between, games have been overly expensive on their digital storefront, and their recent console price rise has been a downer. Harry Potter being a Warner Brothers multi-platform being mid is kind of on the side for me.
