Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

When Savita Halappanavar died, it woke up Ireland.

But Amber Therman isn’t enough for the US.

Porsha Ngumezi isn’t enough.

If I cared about life, if I cared about pregnant women and their health, I’d be looking at why black women in the US are 3.5x more likely to die in childbirth.

I drive past a Planned Parenthood when I go to work sometimes. We’ve already banned abortion here, but those fuckers will be out with their gore posters. There are children that are hungry in our city, there are children being abused and neglected because Child Protective Services is no longer functioning here after being sacrificed at the altar of Parental Rights - but these “Christians” aren’t protesting that. They’re protesting abortion at a place that doesn’t provide abortions anymore.

”The unborn” are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus, but actually dislike people who breathe. Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn.

yeah let's ban abortion pills because my religion is better than yours. . I hate these people

[–] ExtantHuman@lemm.ee 4 points 2 hours ago

They don't even know their own religion, which explicitly outlines a [albeit magical procedure] to induce an abortion as a "test of fidelity". And also states, multiple times, that life starts at first breath not conception like they like to chant about.

Ah, there it goes. Was waiting for this one. Next up, porn ban. Small government indeed; small enough to fit into your bedroom...

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 1 points 56 minutes ago

Thinking about all the unborn babies because those pornstars use birth control.

Ah yes, a review. Just like the review of causes of autism. Just like the review of vaccines. Just like they'll be reviewing every last thing about trans people's healthcare. Just like they'll continue to review other aspects of women's healthcare. Maybe in the end they'll review healthcare for non-whites and mental healthcare for leftists. All for the sake of a better understanding, all out of genuine concern and a thirst for learning with a completely open mind.

Gee... who saw that coming?
