Peggy, feeling a bit unfeminine because of her masculine clothes and size-16 feet, befriends Carolyn, who views Peggy as the epitome of womanhood. Hank is thrilled that Peggy finally has someone else to talk to about her girl problems, but discovers that Carolyn is a drag queen who thinks Peggy is one too. Meanwhile, Bobby tries to play pranks on people using a joke book, but every prank turns into someone else's good fortune.

Its gonna be hard to replace Johnny Hardwick and Brittany Murphy, but I hope they do them both justice.
In context, she’s portrayed as dumb for it and specifically said she was going to vote communist because the guy was handsome. It’s not very flattering to her, and IIRC she changes (or is implied to consider changing?) her vote to Bush at the end.
Now, what I actually WOULD consider a woke episode for the time was the episode about Dale’s dad being gay and working in the gay rodeo. This was 2 years before Bush’s re-election bait was to say he wanted to add an amendment to the US Constitution to outlaw gay marriage.
Also the episode where Peggy winds up making friends with drag queens because of her enormous feet.
I recently went back and watched all the episodes. The general vibe I get from the show is that it challenges Hank and Peggy fairly often with a typical (for the time) conservative issue. They start with a stereotypical response to the situation, but by the end of the episode, they have learned to be more accepting of the world around them, without sacrificing their own way of life. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Recently watched the episode where Hank is a huge pain in the ass about some clouds in Bobby's room and he and Peggy end up kicking each other in the shins.. it's less preachy and more down to earth with the characters problems and how they solve it. I enjoy it very much.

Correct. She's vaine while hank is small town ignorant but open to ideas that challenge his own, except charcoal and they go pretty deep into sunk cost fallacy into that one too.
