Summary

Tesla’s sales in Europe collapsed in April, plunging over 50% in several countries despite an overall 23.9% rise in EU EV sales.

Sweden saw an 81% drop, the Netherlands 73.8%, and France 59%.

The refreshed Model Y failed to revive interest as buyers turned to alternatives, citing CEO Elon Musk’s controversies or superior competitors.

Tesla’s Q1 EU market share fell from 2.4% to 1.3%. Including the UK and EFTA, sales dropped 37.3%. Globally, 2024 was Tesla’s worst delivery year in two years, raising doubts about a near-term recovery.

Burn that fucker into the ground

How amazing - it turns out capitalism works best when consumers have the ability to vote with their wallets. Meanwhile in the US, I'm going to start handing out swastika stencils to people can spray paint them onto Model S's.

[–] biofaust@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I do my part here in Denmark (which is chock full of Tesla), by giving the middle finger to every Swastikar that passes me by on my commute by bike.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm kind of amazed how many unvandalised Teslas there are here in Copenhagen.

[–] biofaust@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

At least we are not letting Tesla start a self-driving test on our streets as Norway is doing.

[–] BreadstickNinja@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Surely you could manage two middle fingers as long as you're not in a sharp turn!

[–] biofaust@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I am ashamed to say that, even after 15 years in cycling cities, I have never learnt to bike with hands on the handle.

I think it's part of my personality: 20 years ago when I still drove a car I was fixed with my hands at 10 to 10 on the wheel and I approach every keyboard with my left hand in the WASD shape.

[–] chillhelm@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I have never learnt to bike with hands on the handle

my hands at 10 to 10

I'm not sure if you are a terrible driver and bad typer or great driver and good typer...

[–] biofaust@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Ooops, it's "without" hands on the handle.

And 10 past 10.

I am a late typer.

[–] lupusblackfur@lemmy.world 113 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Fucking wonderful!!!

More of this please!!

"Drive" the value of the Swastikar into the fucking ground.

🤡 😂 🖕 🖕

Tesla is the poster child of companies that feel the wrath of people who oppose fascism. But this needs to happen to all the companies that kowtow to Trump and his regime, and there's a whole litany of them.

https://www.publicsquare.com/

You can use this site to identify businesses that are 100% MAGA. It was made to help MAGA know where to shop, but it can tell rational people where not to shop.

[–] filister@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago

Or simply for the rest of the world, boycott US products.

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 53 points 3 days ago (3 children)

They need to calm down with that title. It's only been a few months. Unfortunately people forget way too easily.

[–] AntelopeRoom@lemm.ee 28 points 3 days ago (5 children)

I suspect Americans may forget, but maybe not Europeans given that him and Trump insulted their national pride. Same with Canadians.

I do hope Americans never forgive and never forget on this one.

What baffles is how completely overbought the stock is and how it refuses to collapse. There must be some big whales propping him up.

On the flip side, titles like this will help people to not forget.

It's a completely overvalued company. Other car companies have a much higher production rate, sell more cars, at a much better quality, and have more market share, yet don't "enjoy" the same kind of market valuation. In Germany, Teslas are on par with Dacia in terms of production quality, yet Dacia sells cars at a fraction of the cost of Tesla. In other words, it's a bubble. One way or another, it will burst, and if it takes the nazi boss in charge down with it, even better.

Ironically they lost two lawsuits against Top Gear/Clarkson when they sent 2 cars to review and both turned out to have problems.

[–] Reygle@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] FilthyHands@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes, the fittings were one of the many problems.

[–] houseofleft@slrpnk.net 26 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Can't pretend I'd be sad to see them crash out completely, although it does make me feel a little uneasy for repairability of existing Teslas.

Nazi or no nazi, it isn't gonna be good for the planet to have a whole bunch of cars deemed irrepairable, although my guess is a buy out would stop that happening.

[–] 3abas@lemm.ee 16 points 3 days ago (2 children)

When the inevitable revolution is complete, Tesla needs to be socialized! People should really start talking about this and aiming for it seriously as a an end goal.

Tesla is manufactured locally and they've been heavily investing in building factories while all the other car makers went out. This is one of the things Tesla did right and why Elon was well loved by liberals, before he went all out as a Nazi.

And look the last thing I want to do right now is defend Elon's anything, and the Chinese EVs have really caught up, but Teslas are great EVs that are reliable but will be on the road and need service for decades to come.

Socialize and nationalize Tesla, it was built by the most talented American engineers and hard workers all for the profit of one Nazi and his family, let's fix that last bit.

Socialize Tesla. Take it back from the Nazi enemy of the state, give it back to the people who built it.

[–] lagoon8622@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (3 children)

Teslas are great EVs

Are they though? I would never buy a Tesla, I would buy an Ioniq in a heartbeat though

Edit: this is not a criticism, I agree with your comment. Just a discussion. I would argue that Tesla is way behind on tech

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I hate how reliant on touch screens they are. Ain’t for me, but many new cars are like that these days. Not a fan really.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago

It'll be nice when that fad passes, it's absolutely shit from a human-factors engineering point of view and I'm sure a properly-conducted study would show that it costs lives.

Good. Destroy it!

[–] Realitaetsverlust@lemmy.zip 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I'm honestly just waiting for some really smart person to hack a tesla, flash it with custom firmware and I'll get a used one for a couple thousand bucks lmao.

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 18 points 3 days ago

Burn baby burn

[–] death@infosec.pub 36 points 3 days ago

To quote an old car show: Oh no! Anyway.

[–] lsibilla@lemm.ee 27 points 3 days ago (5 children)

I don’t understand why their stock is still 51% higher than it was one year ago.

It went down significantly since the beginning of the year (~-25%) but less that it went high after November election (~+100%).

[–] OhNoMoreLemmy@lemmy.ml 21 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Because Tesla is a meme stock.

It's price has always been completely decoupled from the number cars they sell, and depends on musk constantly lying and promising fully working humanoid robots and self driving taxis by next year.

[–] caffinatedone@lemmy.world 24 points 3 days ago

Because Tesla stock is essentially a meme stock and always has been. It’s not based on the actual boring making of cars, but rather the strength of musk’s bullshit powered reality distortion field.

There’s always some vaporware next big thing that he pitches, but never actually delivers on which is used to justify their ridiculous valuation.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

The investors are betting Musk will be able to latch onto the subsidy titty even more than he's done already.

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 3 points 2 days ago

Eleven states require automakers sell a certain percentage of zero-emissions vehicles by 2025. If they can’t, the automakers have to buy regulatory credits from another automaker that meets those requirements – such as Tesla, which exclusively sells electric cars....The $1.6 billion in regulatory credits it received last year far outweighed Tesla’s net income of $721 million – meaning Tesla would have otherwise posted a net loss in 2020. - source = CNN

Take it to Zero. This company has to go.

[–] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

The SuperCharger network needs to be spun off into its own company. It’s one of the few positive things to come out of the company, especially now that the Tesla NACS plug/socket has become the SAE J3400 open standard and most EV manufacturers have announced support for it. It’s the only international EV fast charging network that can be seen as comparable to similar gas/petrol chains.

Their battery storage division that manufactures PowerWalls, MegaPacks, etc. should also be saved (perhaps spun off as well). Those are good quality home & grid-scale battery solutions.

Their cars, vaporware solar products, robots, etc. all deserve to go the way of the dodo as quickly as possible.

What baffles me is that conservatives usually don't believe in global warming and don't care about the environment so they are less likely to purchase an EV. So why is Musk courting them? Presumably he did a lot of damage to the brand. And it doesn't help either that the Cyberpunk is one giant flop, similar to Fiat Multipla.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've gotten Multiplas as rentals on a couple occasions. They're ugly as sin, but are actually kind of practical, don't have the same crap quality as a Tesla, and cost a lot less.

[–] filister@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Fair point, I was mostly talking about the looks. What makes matters worse is that the Cyberpunk is also very dangerous on the road both for pedestrians and also other cars. I am so glad that this monstrosity isn't allowed in Europe.

[–] HenryBenry@lemm.ee 17 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Honestly hoping conservatives start buying EVs en mass to own the libs.

Musk was courting democrats until he fell out with them over labour rights. I think his "republican phase" started due to pushing for less workers rights in the US, so that he can make cheaper cars.

That was obviously a long time ago, before X and DOGE, he's clearly in a delusional hate bubble at this point and expecting rationally explainable actions is unfortunately too big an ask.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

On other words, he'll buy off whoever he thinks will give him what he wants.

They should scour military stockpiles for any left over ww2 explosives and use them to demolish all tesla factories and dealerships. Give those old material their final hurrah in taking down fascism.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 11 points 3 days ago

If it lost 90% of its value, it'd still be overvalued
