Karl Marx, born on this day in 1818, was a foundational political theorist and journalist associated with the philosophy of Marxism.

Among Marx's best-known texts are the "The Communist Manifesto" and the three-volume "Das Kapital", in which he set out to define and explain the behavior of the capitalist mode of production.

Marx's political and philosophical thought have had enormous influence on subsequent intellectual, economic and political history, and his name has been used as an adjective, a noun, and a school of social theory.

Marx's critical theories about society, economics and politics - collectively understood as Marxism - hold that human societies develop through class conflict. In capitalism, this manifests itself in the conflict between the ruling classes (known as the bourgeoisie) that control the means of production, and the working classes (known as the proletariat) that enable these means by selling their labor power in return for wages.

Employing a critical approach known as historical materialism, Marx concluded that, like previous socio-economic systems, capitalism produced internal tensions which would lead to its self-destruction and replacement by a new system known as socialism.

You look at Silent Hill 2—or look at it in a certain way, at least—and what you see is how almost every game equivalent in terms of budget, scale, or mainstream exposure that’s been created in the last two decades has not, in any way, come close to what Silent Hill 2 achieved. It’s an apex in the sense that an apex symbolises and prefigures a downfall, a depletion, a gradual collapse. I haven’t played the remake yet, so I’m not passing judgement on it in terms of its own quality, but it seems to serve as the ideal metaphor for games now as opposed to games then—there was a point in time where things like Silent Hill 2 came out, and now we’re at a point in time where remakes of those things come out. It’s the reputation of Silent Hill 2 that has guaranteed its remake. Its vision and originality are commodities now, the raw materials which are best suited to be recycled and exploited by modern game factories. The world of videogames today has become the town of Silent Hill itself, inhabited by reflections, refractions, and grotesques of the past—half-formed ghosts composed of the leftovers of living souls. More astounding than the original Silent Hill 2 is how few other mainstream games with its cohesiveness, depth, and general artistic credibility have ever been made. It’s astounding that it’s astounding.

Why are pepper plants like the fainting goat of the plant world?

Like, not enough water, or too much water, or looking at it wrong, and it's just like AIGHT, BET, I'M OUT and it drops all its leaves off

Like they just kill themselves, like, the leaves just autolyze at the base and fall

I am assuming it's an adaptation to reduce water loss but like, my plant in christ, you need those fucking leaves!

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 4 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I found a soil fairly high is clay is a pepper's best friend.

[–] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 5 points 19 hours ago

I think the problem is it was all root bound as fuck and i either tore it up trying to loosen it or it was just still not enough for it to get enough water after i transplanted it

I think it'll survive but idk

The Dø tickets are all sold out. I was really hoping to see them, but I was slow on the draw.

Lately it been warm enough to go outside at night, which is nice since I like to star gaze. So it's nice to start to be able to do that again without getting cold.

But it makes me miss my dog more, cw: griefSince I would bring my dog outside with me, and this summer just going to be different without him. I can't help but think how easy it was to lose track of him since he was a walking void, if it wasn't for his white star on his chest, you wouldn't notice him in the dark.

and then this grief is making me think of my mom to, doesn't help it's mother day as well. I guess right now it just one of those moments where all that stuff just comes back.

It also just makes me wonder what am I even doing anymore. Why am I here?

spoiler mental health stuff cw: depression, suicide and why can't things just finally end. It would be nice for things to just end, but they won't. I don't really want to be here. I'm really tired. I really would like to think there just some sort of reason why I just have to keep being here, even if I don't really want to be at times. Yet if there was, things just feel unbearable, especially with lately just feeling like no one really cares about me besides my dad or my grandma.

just I dunno, I just hope something changes. well that not true, lots of things have changed, and things are always changing, albeit slowly. so maybe this won't be forever or I hope so. :::

Not going great tbh haha, sorry

Been sick the last couple days and exhausted

bad family stuff and addictionDad had a fall (stroke?) and went to the hospital a couple days ago again and was in the ICU with sepsis

Relapsed and got booze and smokes and made myself sick the other day

Just trying to get some rest and drink plenty of water and feel less awful today

Have like no energy for anything and am super burned out by everything

[–] Kolibri@hexbear.net 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

family stuff,addictionmeow-hug that doesn't sound good with your dad, especially with the sepsis and possible stroke. the stuff with your dad sounds overwhelming.

it's good you're getting rest and drinking water despite the relapse. perhaps just resting a bit and taking care of yourself will help? I hope you keep hanging in there, and hopefully things start to change for the better for you.

I remembred someone said they preferred female corrin because apparently being naive and stupid is more tolerateable for women.

Fire emblem sexism man I HATE GENDER LOCKED CLASS I HATE FEMALE LORDS BEING WRITTEN AS STUPID NAIVE.

[–] TerminalEncounter@hexbear.net 7 points 21 hours ago

If anything, himbo is the more appropriate class - but stupidity and naivity transcends gender. All are born stupid, naive, and mewling

"It's mothers day, call your mom"

o-okay, what do you want me to call her?

I don't mind grafitti but I really wish they would do something besides writing their tags 90 times.

Edit: Grafitti is art. And it can therefore be critiqued as bad art.
