News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

Just deleted my Reddit account after 4 years due to being wrongly banned for ban evasion and having all my appeals either rejected or ignored. Hope Lemmy's a better place

(I first posted this on my .ee account but I'm switching to .world now so I'm reposting this here)

Welcome to Lemmy. We don't have collectible avatars on blockchain. Sorry if you were into those. But you can make your own avatars if you want, which I think is even better!

It has! At least on the web, if you view user profiles - but most of the time they're pretty useless because in the comments they're scaled down to text size. And the Lemmy clients don't bother with them at all. Communities do have icons which are at least more widely used and supported.

Welcome.

By the way, can I ask you why you're switching to lemmy.world? We're kind of trying to not make lemmy.world bigger than it is already. It is hurting the decentralization. If there was any problems in lemm.ee, please tell us so we can help you.

Can't post images larger than 100kb

[–] morbitm@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Oh really? I read somewhere that it was 100kb. It doesn't really matter though as I couldn't post any inages

The image uploads are disabled for accounts younger than 4 weeks to defend against spam. That most likely is the reason why. This info is available in the sidebar of the instance.

500kb limit is crazy though, most images are larger

Well, the storage and bandwidth for the images is not free. I encourage you to use external image hosting services, like catbox.moe. You should know that these instances are run by individuals like you and me, with no ads, no selling your personal data, etc.

Then you can embed them using this markdown syntax: ![alt text](image url)

In most Lemmy apps, there is an interactive UI for your convenience.

You also might consider self hosting your own private instance, like me and a few hundred others. Then you have full control over your instance and with which instances you federate with.

Lemmy has less content than Reddit, but isn't quieter. You will surely get more personal user engagement here.

Welcome to lemmy.

Hey welcome! I switched over to Lemmy after 11+ years on Reddit. People actually talk to you here versus in Reddit!

To me, the Reddit experience feels like shouting into the void now. Very much like alone in a crowded room (of mostly bots). You can go back and check if your posts and comments there had been blocked from being seen by others. It’s staggering how many posts and comments are blocked over there. You can see how many posts and comments from normal Redditors are hidden here: Reveddit.

Post stuff when you feel ready too! Your posts are needed because it’s just humans here. There’s no algorithm and there aren’t any bots reposting reposts.

If you weren’t there, Lemmy feels like Reddit 10 years ago in a good way.

Welcome again, Morbitm! 😄

Hi, have fun. Don't forget to use a coaster on the good table and don't feed the trolls if you find any.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

Welcome to the gang! I look forward to recognizing your name in conversation!

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago

I didn't get banned, deleted my Reddit account of 11+ years anyway. 14 years? It was long anyway. F— that place.

[–] miguel@fedia.io 2 points 18 hours ago

I find there's a lot of reddit here (good and bad), but the vinyl and CD communities are probably nicer (if less busy). The rest, well, vary :D

I got my Reddit ban award recently also. Not too sure what it was but I made a comment about Johnson having a punchable face.

Reddit is getting way to sensitive since selling on the stock market

Hope Lemmy's a better place

Yeah... Uh... About that....

Its pretty much the same as Reddit, but the difference is you can easily ban evade by making a trillion accounts on different instances. Mods and admins can still abuse their power but at least their abuse is public in the mod log.
