Oakland uses ranked choice voting, which means that if a candidate receives a majority of first-choice votes, that person wins. If not, the last-place candidate is eliminated, and voters who selected that person have their votes counted for their next choice — a cycle that repeats until a candidate gets a majority.

We need this nationwide.

I don't know anything about her, but this sounds all right to me:

As for homelessness, Lee has referred to the crisis as a “moral disgrace.” She said she wants to test a guaranteed income pilot program for homeless people, hire unhoused residents to clean the streets, and work with the Veterans Administration to get veterans off the street.

Oakland just can't get a good politician elected. Hopefully this one doesn't have some hidden shit going on like the past many.

You’d think any hidden shit would have already come to light during her 26 years as one of the most visible progressives in the US House.

You would think that one of the two parties that oppose progressives would have found some dirt by now.

Again, Oakland keeps choosing people that get caught up in scandals. I dunno 🤷

What kind of odd take is this. I agree Barbara Lee won't accomplish much in an interim mayor seat but she's mostly beyond reproach and definitely speaks for me!

I'm not saying anything against her, but the last like FIVE Mayors of Oakland have all had scandals or other issues happening it's crazy. I feel bad for the city.

Not senator? Isn't this bad?
