The dead plant is a nice touch.

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 32 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

It's plastic. Available from Ickea for 5.99 and called Schlorpobrotto.

It's a Guiana Chestnut. They are exceptionally easy to look after.

You may not like it, but this is what peak Buy It For Life looks like.

Amateur hour! The cinder blocks are all aligned and could more easily tip over; stagger those joints! The top will scratch your phone; put a piece of wood, cardboard, or an old shirt on top to protect it. Also, throw away that phone box, that shit ain't collectable.

[–] Oka@sopuli.xyz 41 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Maybe I'll need that phone box in the future

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I will admit that I store old phones in the original box.

Same with some old computer parts.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 weeks ago

I used to do that.

Now I use a box cutter and cut out any bar codes or serial numbers off most of the boxes and put them in the motherboard box with the rest of manuals and accessories. It was hard at first but it's been good.

Cinderblocks are literally just legos for adults. Not because it's more mature or anything, but because it's cheaper.

Except, you know what I discovered just LOVES to live in cinder blocks? For instance the stack I had on my balcony? Black Widow Spiders, that's who. Whole families of them, each in a section, with egg sacs.

Furniture maker here: Would a night stand with open cubbies on the front like that be popular? That would be fairly easy to build out of wood.

[–] darkstar@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

Dude, yes! I would 100% buy that

[–] satanmat@lemmy.world 37 points 2 weeks ago (6 children)

Honestly yeah.

The ability to have your mess slightly better organized, and cheap.

Yeah

It's basically the cinder-version of an Ikea Kallax shelf, which also allows per-cubby accessories like baskets, doors, and subdividers.

How many months ago do you figure he dropped that pen back there

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 weeks ago

day he put the side "table" in for sure

[–] letsgo2themall@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I think this is less "male" and more "poverty".

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

You can probably find a used nightstand for free easier than finding/buying those blocks to haul to your apartment.

The design is a awesome, but come on don't put it directly over the floor, put a rag or something under it.

Just jealous because I didn't need $40k to furnish my home.

Amazing brutalist aesthetic

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.ml 17 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (4 children)

Yeah, seriously, make that in wood and it would be a hit.

The most popular shelves are just a bunch of cubes, one side open, slapped together.

First thing I thought of when I saw that is "Hey, that's just Kallax!"

My girlfriend and I have just moved into a new home and we're decorating the living room. It's still a work in progress, but we've painted the wall and put up some Kallax!

There's going to be some drawers and doors and stuff, but this is what it looks like so far ❤️

Edit: for those of you eagle eyed enough to think "wtf even is that in the picture?" I can explain. It's a pokéball drinks coaster made from hammer beads!

I like it except would definitely have to put those little round felt pads for chair feet under it to protect the floor.
