Apparently, it's doing really well now.

And also they're called "lazy bears" in Ecuador.

[–] jan75@lemmy.ml 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"Faultier" in german as well, "faul" = lazy and "tier" = animal

[–] espentan@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Same in Norwegian, dovendyr.

Doven = lazy, or more accurately, "action less". Dyr = animal.

Can we cut these little guys some slack!? Jesus. Every nation on Earth piling on.

[–] Willdrick@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Cut them some slack?! They've got all the slack already!

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Portuguese: bicho preguica

Preguiça: to feel lazy, "bicho": a little less formal way to say animal

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago

We literally called them lazies.

[–] BlueMagma@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago

In french we call them "paresseux" which means "lazy"

Haha that's cool, I wonder if there are any languages where the sloth isn't named after their slow nature?

Aww. He looks suspiciously calm. Like as soon as the officer puts him somewhere safe he's going to walk back into the danger.

Here's an article with more details, including pictures with more pixels: https://abc7ny.com/sloth-ecuador-quevedo-oso-perezoso/1172446/

Alright, we'll give you really cool claws, but the trade-off is that you'll move with the speed of darkness.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 14 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Speed of darkness

Isn't that basically exactly the same as the speed of light? 🤨

[–] espentan@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

Hehe, probably. It's just something I like to say, with the implication being that if the speed of light is fast, then the speed of darkness must be slow. It stands to reason, right?

Actually since darkness contains no information darkness can move at any speed

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"Sir do you know how fast you were going?"

[–] LaterRedditor@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Do you know why I stopped you?

Am I crazy or does that 2-toed sloth have 4 digits on its left hand?

Edit: my leading theory is its back left leg is next to its left foreleg. So we're seeing both finger and toenails.

[–] oxysis@lemm.ee 4 points 2 weeks ago

Thesloth has both its left limbs right next to each other. In the first photo you can see both limbs more clearly but you can make out a small gap between them in the second photo too.

[–] communist@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I noticed that, suspected ai, but I think I agree with your theory, especially considering the top photo shows them together

[–] MyNameIsIgglePiggle@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ngl looks like he pissed himself

[–] janus2@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago

i probably would in that situation, if I were a sloth

[–] EffortlessEffluvium@lemm.ee 6 points 2 weeks ago

“This is my guardrail. There are other guardrails, but mine is best.”

[–] Corno@lemm.ee 5 points 2 weeks ago

Oh my gosh what a cutie! Glad to see he's doing well now too!

[–] CrayonRosary@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago
