“This is our biggest camera bump yet. We think you’re gonna love it.”

[–] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago (2 children)

If it has USB C and a 10x optical zoom I'm almost guaranteed to swap from Android to Apple finally. Google's BS around making ads part of DRM or whatever was the last straw.

Posted from my Pixel 6 Pro....

If you don't use tap to pay and can muscle your way through documentation, GrapheneOS is easily installable on all relatively current Pixel devices. But yeah, I'm not a fan either and as long as I'm on Android, that might tip me back again to using Graphene instead of stock Android.

[–] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I thought of that and looked through the steps to do it and I'm pretty sure I'm past the age of me wanting to try. There was a day it would have been something I couldn't wait to do but I'm pretty sure I'm ~10 years past that day.

is Graphene the new Cyanogen?

[–] eroc1990@lemmy.parastor.net -1 points 1 year ago

Kind of? It's only supported on Pixel devices currently. I think a closer comparison to Cyanogen is LineageOS, since Lineage is literally a fork of Cyanogen after the original maintainers closed up shop. Lineage is more akin to AOSP/the stock Android experience, whereas Graphene has been hardened a bit more than your typical Android release to lend itself to a more privacy-centric experience. Tap to pay and Android auto don't work on Graphene which broke it for me at the time, but I would consider going back despite that if Topics can't easily be disabled on Android 13/14.

As long as it makes my phone sit even LESS flat than before I’ll accept it.

[–] _number8_@lemmy.world 28 points 1 year ago (1 children)

thanks for starting this. first keynote on lemmy lol

is this purely a hardware release? or are we going to get talk of the EU-geolocked sideloading thing

[–] quinten@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

I would not be surprised if Apple does not mention it, in any keynote, ever.

[–] johnthedoe@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Curious to see what they cripple with usbc. And if they’re updating every lightning port product to usbc too. Be interesting if all phones will get the pill/dynamic island treatment. Hope it’s useful and not a gimmick when more apps support it

[–] Powerpoint@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Most other Apple products already use USBC and have for a while. It's only the iPhone they've been dragging their feet on.

[–] Aasikki@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Except magic mouse, keyboard, trackpad and airpods. Did I miss something?

[–] rehydrate5503@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] Onse@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Latest version is USBC as well

[–] realitista@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think it will be hilarious to watch them continue forcing their phones to communicate with USB2.0 speeds even after the move to USB-C just so they can push more people to buy overpriced iCloud storage. It will be 2060 and we will still have USB 2.0 on our apple phones.

[–] affiliate@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

in 2060 the iphone will be the only piece of technology still using USB 2.0, a functioning reminder of the past

[–] nieceandtows@programming.dev 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Went on a vacation and my wife's 13 got run over by a truck and my 12 pro back glass shattered by falling on concrete. Now I'm fully ready for new phones. Hopefully one of my kidneys is enough.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I hear ya. Both my kids have X’s which are losing support, plus they have a lot of physical damage. Time to upgrade our 13 Pro’s, so the kids can have those ….. depending on just how expensive this is going to be

[–] Tschuuuls@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago (3 children)

FYI you can get the back glass of a 12 repaired by a 3rd party for a reasonable price compared to a whole frame swap at the apple store basically.
Also the 13 board might still work if swapped into another totaled phone, just chuck it up on ebay. Someone will probably buy it as a project.

[–] anon_water@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

Shhhhh he wants to spend his money.

[–] nieceandtows@programming.dev 3 points 1 year ago

I don't know if the 13 board is salvageable. It was in a purse when it was run over, and the button in the purse almost punched through the screen out the back. As for the 12 pro, I'm not looking to replace that. Just changing the case to hide the back. I'll check out about the back replacement. It might at least work for a trade in.

[–] money_loo@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

Yeah that’s really unfortunate it’s not fixable…😉😉

My craziest prediction: iMessage for Android

[–] MargotRobbie@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

That'd be great, but I don't think that's going to happen.

[–] kaitco@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

For a fee!

For a mere $300 a month “iOS on Android” subscription, Android users may have iMessage and message other iOS users as if they were a proper Blue Bubble.

[–] Mpeach45@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago
[–] kratoz29@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well, that is already possible with tools such as Matrix isn't it?

[–] SecretPancake@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

I heard it has some disadvantages. I don’t use Android, I just want my friends to be able to use iMessage without any hassle.

[–] money_loo@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

I actually think this is the perfect amount of crazy to work.

[–] LazaroFilm@artemis.camp 2 points 1 year ago

I just want to see iOS opening to other app stores

[–] Aquila@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What’s the event about? More vr headset info?

[–] guywithoutaname@geddit.social 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Likely the next iPhone. It's all but guaranteed to feature USB C to comply with EU regulations.

[–] nicetriangle@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Don't really think there'll be much this time around for me to get personally hype about, but it's always fun seeing what they roll out.

[–] fer0n@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Same. I’m due for a new phone with my three year cycle, but it feels like the updates are becoming less meaningful while being more expensive. I’ll most likely skip this one and maybe even the next one. But we’ll see how it goes.

[–] fer0n@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

What’s the best place to watch this in VR with other people? Probably a niche question, but it might be fun.

[–] Nogami@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Many of the posts in here are awfully salty for Apple enthusiasts. lol.

Doesn’t matter though I ordered a 15 pro max (512gb blue) immediately.

[–] WuTang@lemmy.ninja -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Guys, if you want your youtube channel to blow up right now, talk abou the event, be as clickbaity as you can

  • "The iPhone 15 is a blast, I can't even look at my 14 Pro Max anymore!"
  • "The iPhone 15 titanium at $2000, is it worth it?"
  • "Apple keynote: One more-more thing"
[–] cordlesslamp@lemmy.today 1 points 1 year ago

"DO NOT buy an iPhone 15 before you watch this", thumbnail is a shocking face with mouth wide open, holding an iPhone and the HUGE texts "SHOCKING REVEALS. IS IT WORTH IT???"

[–] Four_lights77@lemm.ee -1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Fingers crossed for an M3 MacBook Air!

[–] SecretPancake@feddit.de 7 points 1 year ago

No computers in the September events

[–] money_loo@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Didn’t they JUST upgrade the MacBook airs? I bought my wife one…
