honest question here. unless there is video and audio proof. how the fuck could someone be charged for this 20+ years later over "he said she said"? like how the hell does that work. Could i just pick a random person and say they raped me in 2002 and then they will go to prison?

I can't believe I bought this guys book. WTF was I thinking.

Dude has charisma and is skilled at improv. He had a story of overcoming addiction and had some good things to say about social issues back then. That kind of thing sells, so lots of scumbags put it in their bios.

How can this book be more than interesting and novel grammatical constructs saying a lot of bull shit at 200kmh?

[–] TomMasz@lemmy.world 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Hard to believe someone who looks like a rapist and acts like a rapist is a rapist.

Right? The guy whose acting range was limited to "smarmy creep with an accent" turned out to be a sex pest. Weird!

Blocked in my country (UK) by the British Broadcasting Corporation, to whom I am forced to pay for a TV licence.

I love Katherine Ryan. I'm Canadian and British so seeing her do her comedy and be famous back at my home (I consider the UK my home) was great.

She seems really genuine and you can hear the fear in her voice. You hear people on the Internet say "how come they all knew and could do nothing about it". Like she's explaining why.

Something was always "off" with this guy. You could feel it during his "sexy socialist Jesus" era and it was practically confirmed with his "conspiratorial Ghandi" revamp.

Here's a Channel 4 documentary that goes into further detail about this man's deranged proclivities.

He always seemed like a cult leader disguised as a comic, using it to attract followers.

The way he groped Vanessa Bayer on SNL, I can't say I'm surprised

For anyone who cares to watch:
Season 36, episode 15. Air date: Feb 12, 2011. Skit: Livin’ Single.

Over a decade later, it still makes me uncomfortable.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait, was that amount of groping not part of the sketch?

I consider his transformation into a double-Christian to be a confession that all the accusations are true. The biggest pieces of dogshit always face consequence mumbling prayers and missives.

[–] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Wasn't it somehow clear he did something like that?

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 days ago

This feels like one of the least surprising news items of all time.

[–] roguetrick@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How likely do you think it is that he'll actually return to the UK to face charges? Or that Trump still extradite him?

[–] ZeroCool@lemmy.ca 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well, based on the fact that Trump forced Romanian authorities to give the Tate brothers their passports back and allow them to return to the US, I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to step in and protect Russell Brand too. He's a passionate defender of rapists (being one himself) and sex traffickers (having been BFFs with Epstein).

[–] FMT99@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The Tate brothers thing was a bizarre one though. Soon as they landed in Florida they were being investigated again by US authorities and then they immediately hopped on a plane back to Romania.
