I’m not talking about fancy movies you mention to impress people with. I’m talking about movies you have seen many times and genuinely feel are really fun, even if their politics might be imperfect. The ones I have in mind are The Fifth Element, Robocop, Starship Troopers, and Independence Day.

Kung Fury - It's only half an hour long, but it's so stupid it's funny. Think it's still on YT.

Black Sheep - Kiwi 'horror'

Goodbye Pork Pie - Another Kiwi flick. Road trip kinda comedy

Rush Hour is fun!

O Brother, Where Art Thou is probably my all time favorite movie. So many lines from that movie live rent free in my head.

If I want the corniest jokes, delivered deadpan and rapid fire, it’s Airplane! any day of the week. It always makes me laugh no matter what mood I’m in

Ocean's 11, 12, and 13 - Ocean's 8 was okay, but I would have liked to see more of the original cast. The trilogy is probably my favorite group of films.

Snatch - I can quote this movie all day.

The Cable Guy - Jim Carrey (I know) at his best. My friends and I used to put this on in the background and have the DVD on loop while we played Warhammer or M:tG.

The Hobbit (1977) - this movie is LotR for me. People like to gush over Peter Jackson's LotR trilogy, but I much prefer the character and landscape designs of this old-ass movie.

The Labyrinth - a Jim Henson classic. While The Hobbit's goblins are great, this movie takes the cake on goblin designs.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil - this movie is nonstop laughs and great comedy horror. Love how it subverts a lot of movie tropes.

Cabin in the Woods - Lovecraftian horror, SCP Foundation, and comedy all blended together for another movie full of laughs.

  • Conan the Barbarian (2011), the Jason Momoa one. I dig movies where the baddies are legit crazy, powerful as hell, and unspeakably, existentially evil. and a good guy who is just like, "whatever, i'm gonna cut your head off because ur a dick."

  • Payback (1999), with Mel Gibson. Similar deal, seemingly all powerful antagonists get completely wrecked from below, all the way to the top, because one guy got ripped off and is too cranky/stubborn to let it go. lots of funny lines and scenes. i couldn't find my favorite, but this one's good too.

  • Serenity (2005). fun lines, bad baddies. "If you can't do something smart, do something right."

  • Super 8 (2011).

  • The Adjustment Bureau (2011).

  • Timeline (2003). Gerard Butler before he became a huge deal.

  • The 13th Warrior (1999). lots of quotables. "They think they are bears." "Is there a cave?!"

I always love me some Matrix

I was going to mention this but I thought it was too serious. It is pretty amazing though and holds up well.

Big Trouble In Little China, Wheels On Meals, Return Of The Jedi, The Matrix, Fury Road. Some of mine I've seen a couple times and have fun with each viewing.

Some of these I haven’t seen so I have to check them out.

A Scanner Darkly. Genuinely fun to look at, fun to listen to Robert Downey Jr spin out.

Hardcore Henry is a really dumb movie but a pretty good roller coaster.

I saw it in the theater. Movie is fucking dope. It doesn't get enough attention for being the technical marvel that it is. There was still a lot of camera shake, but not as much as other movies have done because of what they did to make it more stable.

No Such Thing and Trust by Hal Hartley. Hot Fuzz.
