There is only one good Ghibli AI edit:

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 27 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Sky pirates usually end up being good guys in Ghibli movies, just saying

[–] Torenico@hexbear.net 22 points 3 days ago

energy well spent

Israel and stolen property

Name a more iconic duo. I’ll wait.

[–] Diurnambu1e@hexbear.net 38 points 3 days ago

UK and stolen art ?

[–] aeshna_cyanea@lemm.ee 48 points 3 days ago

I kinda think Miyazaki should be allowed to have a death note

[–] Sator_is_Tense@hexbear.net 56 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

so fucking evil holy shit

studio ghibli should sue and get 100 trillion dollars for this

[–] CarbonScored@hexbear.net 15 points 3 days ago

I want to live in a world where Studio Ghibli dismantled Israel with a huge lawsuit.

[–] MasterBlaster@lemmygrad.ml 67 points 3 days ago

This is perhaps the most perfectly engineered inverse of the emotions Studio Ghibli films invoke in me.

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 61 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The IDF Ghibli movie would be Grave of the Fireflies with a over-your-head wow, cool dying children bent.

[–] Nacarbac@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

It'd be ugly, but as a pair that kind of utter callousness miiiight be effective. Show a happy-go-lucky war film of laughing and jeering bomber pilots just being dudes, spliced with the groundside horror.

Probably best not though.

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 days ago

Most shonen anime, then.

You notice how they don't depict pictures of their grunts standing in front of the lingerie of the women they just killed.

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 51 points 3 days ago

“I asked AI to make a Studio Ghib”

this doesn't look like ghibli so much as promotional art for a free to play mobile game

[–] Hermes@hexbear.net 33 points 3 days ago

Does the plane have a hamas-red-triangle on each person? Do we have to hand it to the techbros?

Was it actually disguised or just a normal navy cargo ship with radar listening devices?

Cause it both does look like a intelligence ship with that massive antenna but also like a modern cargo ship.

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

USS Liberty was just a converted SS Simmons Victory, a Liberty class WW2 merchantman, one of the mass builded cargo ships. it wasn't disguised though, it openly bear US Navy auxiliary vessel hull number and was openly armed. Israel did know what they attacked, their explanations were clearly bullshit.

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Idk how armed it was. But now really worried the fighter jet is a mirage. Definitely doesn't look like the f35 cockpit. Maybe f15 but too rounded for that

Idk how armed it was

Pretty light, 1x76mm, 8x20mm, 4 heavy machine guns.

Speaking of, former Hexbear darling Twitter screenshot originator professional hog groomer has been going on a pro-AI screed against the Nietzschean Slaver Artist Class

And retweeting literal Microsoft disinformation campaign bullshit lmao

I mean, their “analysis” has always been just arbitrary personal conjecture sprinkled with cherry-picked, contextless quotes from uncited articles, topped off with intellectual-sounding babble to bypass the reader’s critical thinking capabilities, but this just takes the cake.

[–] Tommasi@hexbear.net 18 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

How can someone possibly think that freeing the masses to produce art means using a computer program that just generates garbage for them. That's dystopian.

If you're creatively unfullfilled because you have to spend 10 hours a day in an amazon warehouse, typing words in a slop generator when you come home isn't gonna help.

[–] Riffraffintheroom@hexbear.net 19 points 3 days ago (4 children)

It’s true, artists jealously guard the means of production for art, keeping the price of a pencil and piece of paper beyond the means of the common man.

[–] sodium_nitride@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago

Same goes for coding and engineering and all the things people want to "democratize".

There was already a method of democratizing it. It's called state subsidised college.

In the soviet union, workers from all walks of life were given the opportunity to engage in theatre, sports, music, opera, relaxation (ex - spas and public baths) for free and in a physically accessible manner (so your factory might have had its own theatre club).

And that was with technology a 100 years old (yes, these activities were started during the early soviet union).

You don't need AI or slavery to allow people to have the opportunity to live creatively fulfilling lives.

That's not to mention that many jobs themselves would be creatively fulfilling if you removed the ghoulish aspects of capital.

The Nietzsche thing is a bit of a reach but imo he's right that there are contradictions in anti ai rhetoric that should be resolved to have a clear position. I liked this article in the topic https://polclarissou.com/boudoir/posts/2023-02-03-Artisanal-Intelligence.html

[–] space_comrade@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

Good article. I find it weird how many self proclaimed marxist artists just throw marxist thought out the window when it's their ass on the line.

[–] baaaaaaaaaaah@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago

AI tools are anathema to communism

No one actually believes this right? He's gone pure strawman.

[–] theturtlemoves@hexbear.net 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They are right that AI has genuine use cases, and can be used to, for example, assist artists by doing the more repetitive tasks. But AI can't get the 'why' of the art and so will happily make Ghibli-style military propaganda.

[–] space_comrade@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Why are we pretending like every artist in the world is commissioned to produce exclusively great moving unique works of art rather than mostly corporate/propaganda slop?

[–] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

i've seen this take from a lot of marxists. it's a Principled Opposition to luddism, and a belief in the power of technology for liberatory ends.

luckily as an anarchist, i know that technology is the social context in which it is deployed, and the luddites were literally right, even if they were rebelling against the machinery of history itself.

the points about how "normal" computer use is also profoundly wasteful are correct tho.

[–] space_comrade@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago

Can you expand on this a bit? I always found Luddites to be reactionary, I mean obviously they had a right to be pissed but their conclusions and praxis were wrong.

This is something I find rather strange as well. As a Marxist, one should be more than skeptical about the bourgeois ideology of their "civilsing mission" of spreading "progress" and "technology" treating them as reified objects rather than emergent properties of historical processes and social networks of production respectively.

Both of the latter (processes and networks) are things that the bourgeoise advances, but for its own uses and needs.

I cannot take any marxist seriously when they start drooling over the bouegeoise's attempts at creating a bourgeois paradise.

It's like some people get accused of being against "progress", to which they take great offense, so they start overcompensating.
