He just announced foreign vehicle tariffs and there is a huge scandal brewing around the Signal thing. If the media stays on the Signal leak it could become a Watergate-sized problem.

So, Trump hit the "distract them with Greenland" button. He couldn't use the "distract them with Canada is a state" button again, he used that one for the Social Security thing last week.

Yeah he led an insurrection against the capital bro. Do you really think a group chat will be his downfall?

I feel like if Watergate happened half the country and most of Congress would find some way of justifying it and no one would even remember it happened a week later because something else equally insane would come up.

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 66 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Watergate is such a tiny thing in comparison to what tiny hands has done. He has brought a mob to the capital to overthrow the government. Now he is just destroying the government from inside.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago

.. because overthrow from without is soooo 2021

[–] pHr34kY@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

He's flooded the zone with shit to the point that we can't focus on any of it with the attention it deserves.

Trump and the Trump administration are behaving like assholes all over the world.
USA has never been so universally unpopular.

Flight passangers from Canada to USA are down 70%.
Tesla sales in Europe are down 50%.

The boycotts have begun, and numbers like these may be common for 2025.
Trump will cost many jobs in USA, and increased inflation, and it seems an economic downturn too.

Thinking about why the US is so keen on Greenland: It's only relevant for them if they intend to make enemies out of the EU, because they already have all the access they need. But only as long as they are allied with Europe.

It's clear where this is headed. Russia is not the only reason why Europe is rearming.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago (4 children)

He's planning to withdraw from NATO. Otherwise it makes no sense. USA already has more or less free access to build any military base they want there

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 0 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

They are going to cut the map up ww2 style, US gets the americas with green land and China and Russia split the rest. Russia takes Europe, and China gets the pacific. All the rest will dissapear. They may find a middle east partner for that region, and then exploit Africa.

The plan is easy:

  • USA take Canada, greenland and everything up to Panama for Security Reason.
  • Russia take back some part of Europe because they are talking Russian.
  • China take South Korea with North Korea and Taiwan because it’s China anyway...

Easy plan for megalo-dictators

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago

why the US is so keen on Greenland

Testing the invasion waters with something most EUs will not want to risk their lives over, and then he doesn't need to justify what he has on his airbase there.

[–] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That is also why he wants an ICBM defense mesh, because realistically that's the only chance Europe has to cripple us in a fight.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hardly. There are many ways to "cripple" the US without need to resort to a simple-minded military slugfest.

They could act to support Trump's next reelection bid, for example. That'd be more devastating to American power than a nuke.

[–] skozzii@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 days ago

Oof, truth bombs.

[–] Walk_blesseD@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 1 week ago

These fascists need to dangle 🥰

[–] BigMikeInAustin@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Please, Europe, just take this as a declaration war and attack the US now to nip this in the bud.

The sooner this child is stopped, the sooner the world can improve.

[–] filister@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The worst part is that he is completely unhinged and I can easily imagine launching some nuclear nukes towards Europe.

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 2 points 1 week ago

And americans will cheer him on with their fat fists in the air.

[–] Today@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

This is definitely a 'spare the rod, should the child' situation. We need a spanking!

[–] DonAntonioMagino 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

You don’t mean this, do you? The EU attacking the military on which their individual armies depend, the greatest military of the largest economy on earth, would be incomprehensibly stupid. It’s utter fantasy, anyway. A dystopian fantasy that would involve more Europeans dying than Americans, that is if it wouldn’t devolve into nuclear war.

EDIT: not sure why I’m being downvoted for commenting on a fantasy of violence. I don’t think „please start World War III” is fun banter, sorry.

Can this fucker ever say anything that actually means what he says. I swear to fuck, every fucking thing out of this asses mouth is something that can be taken however he wants it. I understand WHY he does it that way but fuck am I tired of it. Its been barely two months. Holy fuck.

[–] IAmLamp@fedia.io 1 points 1 week ago

It seems you still have a lot of fucks to give. I’m tired of it too. Some days I’m all out of fucks.

[–] nirodhaavidya@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Try as I may to avoid this absurd political reality I find myself in, I am continuously dumbfounded by these headlines. I have to check everytime if the post is an Onion article.

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

The Onion is gonna go bankrupt at this rate. I just imagine the editors coming up with stories and headlines, only to crumple and toss them in the trash whenever Trump holds a press conference.

[–] dlatch@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

The Dutch equivalent of The Onion actually send a cease and desist letter to one of our ministers, because they can't compete with the shit she is saying (this woman gives Trump's government a run for their money in terms of both evilness and incompetence)

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I picture a sign at Onion HQ.

It has been 0 0 3 days since we were accidentally factual news.

Iirc during his first period the Onion actually just wrote factual articles about Trump, stating that they could not make up content to compete with reality

[–] pleasegoaway@lemm.ee 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The Onion needs to start publishing articles that discuss trump doing really positive things.

“Trump pledges to increase taxes on billionaires and eliminate their tax loopholes”

“Trump apologizes for renaming the Gulf of Mexico, pledges to undo damage”

“Trump calls on the senate to pass bill that criminalizes insider trading in congress”

“Trump removes all foreign tariffs, making a plea to restore trade deals with the US”

“Trump signed an executive order to forgive all student debt”

Now THAT would be some serious satire.

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago

I think you cracked the code. I would have to take a double check because I would eat that onion. 😂

[–] shiroininja@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

So what he’s telling us is that he’s wanting to fight a war on two fronts: one from within and one from without. I see. Very well then. He’s made his bed.

[–] nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (9 children)

a strange part of me wants to see this go as badly as possible because that's how much I hate Donald Trump and all of the Americans who voted for him and the ones who didn't vote. but that's me being an angry psychopath right? I shouldn't feel this way or want these things. they're really bad

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

It's all fun and games unless you're in the pointy end of the stick

Come on UK. We need a Bond. James Luigi Bond to right this ship.

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 7 points 1 week ago

The Orange Nazi is coming for you. Prepare for the worst.

[–] andallthat@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I wish Trump and his people to really go as far as they have to....And to stay there. Evena bit farther, I won't complain

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Instead of building a wall, they should build a dome around their country

[–] andrewta@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

May I please leave before they seal themselves in? Please?

I warned this for years and no one listened. I voted and lost. May I leave?
