How can people write such bullshit? Trump's mental illness has been on full display for over a decade now. How can anybody watch this guy ramble incoherently for just a few minutes and not conclude that he is completely insane? I'm so sick of the mental acrobatics people keep performing to sanewash him.

Let them try and say 'the candidates are equivalent'. Idiots.

[–] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

hes not?!

guy doesnt believe in the oath of office he took to adhere to the constitution... wants to use if for toilet paper... demands that he not be accountable to anyone for literally any reason and hes not a mad man!?

[–] KnightontheSun@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He’s accountable to Putin.

Everything he’s doing is in service to him. Trump is a Russian operative. It all makes sense in that light.

[–] lupusblackfur@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Nah... Don't believe Chump's actually accountable to Putain...

Chump is same type of lunatic that Putain is and, therefore, Chump's goals for himself and for the world just happen to align almost perfectly with Putain's...

That and the fact Chump worships Putain and leaders like Putain.

Chump's not doing these things cause he's accountable. He's doing them simply because he wants them...

🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️ 🤡 🤡

These stories constantly operate on the assumption that Trump is a rational actor with reasonable goals. Neither is remotely true. He's a fucking idiot who rarely fully understands what he's doing and Russia and oligarchs are easily working his ego and pushing him to destabilize everything.

[–] ech@lemm.ee 6 points 1 day ago

He'd be failing if it weren't intentional.

If he's not mentally ill he should stop acting like every camera his own show where he has to be shocking every 5 mins or people will change channels.

Glad other countries are waking the fuck up to what’s happening, but to be blunt, they need to be moving a lot fucking faster.

[–] aaron@infosec.pub 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What do you mean? How do you think other countries should be moving, in response to Trump? And why?

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Serious answer: look at the whole Project 2025 thing, and analyze what all of that implies on a geopolitical scale.

A hint: This is a tectonic shift in what the US is on the global stage. For the rest of the world, how precisely we got here matters a lot less than the fact that we ARE here: we’re breaking bad. We’re going authoritarian. We’re leaning towards theocracy-flavored fascism. They are changing things in places that many assumed would not be touched. People simply do not seem to understand how often and significant the guard railing was in his first term. This will keep going. This will get worse.

We have already betrayed and antagonized and undermined multiple allies. This will keep going. This will get worse.

We are making plans to become more isolationist, and to just drop a lot of defense agreements on the floor because “they’re not paying us enough”. This administration sees everything as transactional - and I mean EVERYTHING. This will keep going. This will get worse.

The best play right now, imo, is to engage in basic game theory - tit for tat. Even on shit that you thought was unbreakable, like NATO, or “having democracy”. Orangeboi does not care, his sycophants and inner broligarch circle does not care (and in fact, more than a few of them are openly accelerationists). You need to reframe your understanding of our country and our government. We are not your ally anymore. You need to not assume we are your ally. You need to not assume that we would never invade you, or do some “special military operation”, or try to openly destabilize your government (see: Canada. And side note: what the actual fuck how is this a real thing that’s happening). Pay attention. You ignore these changes at your existential peril. I am entirely, 100% serious.

This administration sees everything as transactional - and I mean EVERYTHING.

Not its relationship with Russia. Long-term, unconditional fealty is not transactional.

Thanks for the reply but you didn't really answer my question.

You say other countries should be moving a lot faster, as though it is our responsibility.

Americans voted for Trump. Twice. And Americans are going to be most harmed by him. It is on Americans, including those in the military who took an oath to defend the constitution, to do something about Trump if they don't want to be harmed by him, nobody else.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 1 points 5 hours ago

It's the responsibility of American citizens, but it's not just their problem, it's yours too. And you'd better be prepared for the contingency where citizen action fails, or takes too long.

I’m saying we’ve already shit the bed, and there’s not much we can do now (or, perhaps, going forward indefinitely - that’s not clear right now).

I’m saying that the geopolitical nature and core values of our government are changing DRASTICALLY, and that old assumptions MUST be discarded. I’m saying that if you have politicians or representatives or MPs or senators or whatever who AREN’T deeply concerned with what’s happening here, and who AREN’T shifting their views of the US a lot closer to the Russian “expansionist empire” right now, that they’re being murderously naive. I don’t want to see us pull a large chunk of the developed world down with us, but I fear we will.

[–] aaron@infosec.pub 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Ok I see. I think I took your original message to suggest that the rest of the world needed to do something to stop it, whereas I guess you are saying the rest of the world needs to wake up and not expect the old America to be around.

I think the world is realising that. I am in the UK, as far as I am aware much of our intelligence and military capability is intertwined with the US. That isn't changing over night. But I guess that some sort of security co-operation with the rest of Europe, provided they make right their appalling response towards the UK on our leaving the EU, might happen regarding our nuclear capability. Failure to do so opens the door to the pro Russian reform party, which suits no reasonable person, least of all the EU who presumably can act reasonably when suitably incentivised.

Still you might rejoin the British commonwealth according to Trump yesterday, and I think it might be offered to him formally so that might deepen ties between our two nations lol. Maybe we will give him a title or something.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I mean if he actually somehow thinks that’s a real and good idea for him to follow up on and he DOES try to have us rejoin the commonwealth, I’d rather you gave orangeboi The King’s Justice, to be perfectly honest
