Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

The authors hit out at a “growing portrayal of protesters as alleged threats to democracy rather than a vital part of public participation.”

Two major Acts of Parliament – the Police Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 and the Public Order Act 2023 – have “changed the legal landscape” for protest drastically over the past few years.

Labour should end those Acts made by the Tories, if they know what’s good for them.

They won’t….but they should.

They'll throw protestors in prisons until the oceans swallow them all. Then they'll throw them in the ocean.

Doomerism not helping. We get tones of it from the mass media, and from people reproducing this narrative (online and in person) that wants us to think that it's better to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism.

I'm fed up with this approach.

I didnt say you can't resist. I just said they'll fight it until there is nothing left to defend anymore. Governments are choosing to arrest protestors over charging the heaviest climate polluters.

Labour spent years screaming at the Tories for restricting protests and threatening free speech with the Online Safety Act. Now they are in power they are using the same Tory policies to further restrict any and all criticism in the government. And thankfully its not working.

Kier Starmer THINKS he can ban end to end encryption and peoples rights to store encrypted data locally but the more he tries to stop it the more people actually start using encryption for their private data and VPNs to access the net.

Fuck Starmer, Fuck Rachel from accounts, Fuck Labour and Fuck anyone that voted for them and/or supports them.
