Not much activity but I do see some posts. If you're the first subscriber from your instance nothing will have been loaded yet.

Look here

Weird, on smartphone I saw all the posts.

Now on desktop and I dont, not even on the "guest" account on the left bar of my interface. But then I checked in icognito with the same link you provided and it worked

Whats my issue here. How can I get it to work on my account :/

nop again only in icognito

maybe feddit org doesnt allow it somehow - how would that hypothetical scenario work?

Hm, I'm not sure tbh. We're able to see each others comments and reply. So we're federated.

And I guess since my link above shows recent posts that can't be it. Are you maybe filtering them somehow?

Edit: oh! Check your profile language settings! You want both a English and Undefined selected!

It's going to be fixed next release, but right now any comment that doesn't have its language set manually won't appear if your settings have only English comments selected.

I'm confident this is the issue.

could you pls screenshot the option?

i only see language on my settings/profile settings for like interface. both on photon and on feddit

I'm not sure if it's available from the Photon UI. I'm thinking you need to select English (while keeping ~~undefined~~ undetermined selected). As well as any other languages you speak/wish to see of course.

I don't know what your comms (feddit.org) is federated with/not federated with, but make sure you click the "all" tab rather than just "local" to see all the posts from all the comms. Otherwise you will only see posts from feddit.

Hope that helps!

I think I know what you mean. :D

What is a comm? Like "what exactly"

[–] ace_of_based@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well i actually used the wrong term, sorry.

"Comm" actually is lemmys version of subreddit, short for community. We are chatting in the vegan recipes sub/comm.

"Instance" is your home server, as unlike reddit there are lots of servers, each privately owned with their own rules, from which you access content on the "fediverse" (federated universe).

"Federation" is the term to mean that while you and i aren't on the same server, (im on sh.itjust.works) our two instances talk to each other and allow us to have this conversation.

Some "instances/servers" choose to federate with all other servers, some do not, so my earlier comment was saying 'i don't know what other servers/instances your instance (feddit.org) talks to/federates with.

When you're exploring feddit.org, there's an option to see "local" (feddit.org posts only) or subscribed (im bettin ya already know what that does) or All.

All is the one that will show you posts from every instance yours federates with. If you select "All" i think you'll be able to see more posts.

Other things you may wish to try is changing your view from top hour (or whatever its on) to a different one (i default to "top 6 hours" and "active" usually) and see if posts pop up.

If youre coming from reddit it may be a shock how much less content there is comparatively. I know there are more active vegan subs on other instances but im not the best resource for that, hopefully someone else can hop in with a list of the most active for ya <3

thanks this helped alot

EDIT: Since theres so many servers in different possessions, how do they keep afloat?

And is there like a (unified) medal award system (like silver, gold) for comments and posts on that note?

[–] ace_of_based@sh.itjust.works 3 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (2 children)

These being a bunch of smaller servers rather than one giant one means upkeep is comparatively cheap. Don't quote me but you could probably spin up your very own instance and federate it with the others for a few thousand bucks. Since theyre privately owned there aren't investors driving for profits, there just needs to be enough money to keep the domain registered and the electricity on.

To your question about gilding comments: As far as i know? No instances do this, and it isn't possible to donate to all of em, just each one separately.

If you would like to donate money to help keep things running, click the sidebar on your main page (not in a comm, the main feddit.org page) and there should be a donation link.

Good info here, but I was curios and a search shows a site offering to host and manage the Lemmy software for you for $10/month. If you're a single user and know how to use docker I'm sure it could be cheaper.

Huh, that is good info, didn't know that.
