Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

You know, when I was a kid in the 80's we were slightly rural, nothing was ever delivered except mail, or if you ordered something freight or building supplies.

You could get takeout in my area, but afaik, noone was delivering anything

I had seen the commercials for Domino's 30 minute delivery, But they just simply weren't in my area and it didn't seem like there was anybody else doing that work.

[–] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Kinda the same here, except my house had delivery. Our cottage which was 30 minutes from the house, had no delivery u told mid 00s even though pizza place out there was only 15 minute drive. Was weird to my child brain

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 1 points 7 hours ago

I'm currently 3.9 miles from a Dominos that will not deliver to my neighborhood.

Then I viewed the reviews, I now frequent non-chain pizza places.

[–] meep_launcher@lemm.ee 2 points 17 hours ago

It wasn't until the invention of the skateboard and baseball cap that pizza delivery could even become a thing at all

[–] lipilee 2 points 18 hours ago

Every time you order pizza, it's not delivered for a long time, until it's delivered.

[–] AbouBenAdhem@lemmy.world 84 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I can still remember that time.

It must have been some eight or nine hours ago now: if you tried to get a pizza delivered back then, they would just give you a message telling you to call back at 10 am when the pizzeria was open.

The dark ages.

Pizza delivery is notoriously dangerous. More pizza delivery drivers get shot than cops. It took a long time for people to build up the courage and sense of responsibility for pizza before they braved those streets.

I honor our pizza delivery drivers. o7

More pizza delivery drivers get shot than cops

This is more of a America problem than a pizza guy problem.

[–] 3dmvr@lemm.ee 1 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Everyday i consider being a cop, good overtime pay, life isn't at risk, do whatever you want swap precincts if there are issues no biggie, its a legal mob that protects their own, no real risk, they just stand around let shootings happen, speed everywhere, free whip, my friends have seen cops from local areas doing coke in ppls houses, they're corrupt af just havin a good time, no ones about to stop them like on tv, everyones in on it

I served in the pizza delivery service for nearly ten years 🎖️

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

Where were you stationed?

[–] JayleneSlide@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

Thank you for your service, culinary logistics veteran.

Papa John’s, West Virginia 55th company. Still get flashbacks when I hear someone say “garlic sauce”. Can’t believe I made it out alive

Ain't nobody got time for Delta Quadrant Pizza delivery. That's coming out of your tip, Kathryn.

[–] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I see the Trek reference, but I feel like I'm still missing something...

[–] AdamEatsAss@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

I was a part of delivery team six. We lost a lot of good men on that delivery run. 22 pineapple pizzas changes a man.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And I'M STILL WAITING!!! I ordered this pizza in 1997! How long does it TAKE???

[–] H1jAcK@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

I remembered your Diet Dr Kelp, though

[–] DannyBoy@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 day ago

*in the USA

[–] SouthEndSunset@lemm.ee 5 points 1 day ago

Unlike your coppers, your pizza delivery people don’t deserve even risking getting shot.

This is America. People do whatever the f*** they feel like doing, you got a problem with that? Because they have a right to. And because they have guns and no one can f***ing stop them. As a result, this country has one of the worst economies in the world. When it gets down to it–we're talking trade balances here–once we've brain-drained all our technology into other countries, once things have evened out, they're making cars in Bolivia and microwaves in Tadzhikistan and selling them here–once our edge in natural resources has been made irrelevant by giant Hong Kong ships and dirigibles that can ship North Dakota all the way to New Zealand for a nickel–once the Invisible Hand has taken all those historical inequities and smeared them out into a broad global layer of what a Pakistani bricklayer would consider to be prosperity–y'know what? There's only four things we do better than anyone else:

music

movies

microcode (software)

high-speed pizza delivery

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 1 points 20 hours ago

You read my mind.

Those skates!

This is America.

This is the internet.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

More pizza delivery drivers get shot than cops.

Pretty certain that stat is from America. Also, pretty certain my post was the opening to one of the most famous cyberpunk novels of all time.

[–] SouthEndSunset@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

I’d be careful telling USians that they aren’t the only people on the ‘net, they might shoot you.

[–] urbanhedgelady@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

I live super rural. It still isn't.

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

That time was last night. The location? Costco. $10 for a pie is the best deal going right now.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And it's a good size. And not terrible.

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I've been a member for a couple of years and assumed it was warmed up frozen pizza, but I looked up the process and it isn't. It really tastes pretty good (especially for the price).

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I have to imagine that even back when pizza was probably first invented, food delivery was a common thing. You just would have to order it in person, in advance if you didn't have a bird or know how to write.

[–] BossDj@lemm.ee 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Toss a coin at the corner street urchin to fetch it for you

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 1 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)
  • $0.25 tip
  • $4.72 surge pricing
  • $3.99 service fee
  • $2.99 local fee and taxes
  • $1.99 insurance
  • $0.72 mileage
[–] Cornflake@pawb.social 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It was in fact Digiornoed.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Downvoted because digiorno is owned by nestle.......and nestle is evil.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

It's not delivery, it's de... struction of human life and exploitation of natural resources.

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well now I want a pizza delivered on horseback.

[–] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's pretty commonly delivered by bicycle in NYC.

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And? I did that on bicycle occasionally in Mississippi, way faster than a vehicle no less.

I mean I want a pizza delivered by horse, even if I gotta ride the horse my damn self.

[–] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

Hey alright. I didn't know if you just wanted something available pre-1900 or specifically a horse. If I knew how to get you the hookup on equestrian pizza I'd be happy to tell ya, but I don't.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

we always had to go pick up the pizza! pizza!, unless we were goin' to super-k, which had little caesars inside with a dining area.

[–] rainrain@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wait. What was that pizza place called? With a Greek guy who said pizza pizza. And it was 2 pizzas. And the pizzas were impaled on a spear. And it was pretty good pizza.

[–] FlavorPacket@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Little Caesar’s. Good pizza, great bread sticks. The founder was a pretty good dude too (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Ilitch)

[–] rainrain@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Jesus. I had no idea. He was a superhero.

[–] Tungsten5@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago

Those were dark times. My favorite in undergrad was to order a 14 inch hot sauce pizza from a local shop (of course delivery). I may be trash for how much I enjoyed this pizza but idc. Wont matter on my death bed
