My mother who does not know how to distinguish between science and pseudoscience:

It’s clearly your mitochondria creating less energy because your brain tells them to not do anything because you are lazy. You need to try. I saw an instagram reel about it!

(I have a known lifelong immune illness which greatly restricts my energy capacity but my mum says I’m not “being positive”)

I wish all these positivity power people who are blessed to be mentally healthy could spend one day inside my ADHD, severely mentally ill brain. They would understand so quickly.

My mother was the same except she had me convinced that there would only be something wrong with me if I had to see someone about it.

Hang in there until you can get help without her being involved.

I was given a combination of prayer, essential oils, and other supplements

I know it’s just a meme but if you’re reading this as a minor with parents who deny science/therapy, talk to your school counselor. They are there to help you and will work with you to find resources locally that can help. They may also be able to speak with your parents on your behalf - with your consent - to explain the benefits of counseling or therapy.

Happiness and mental wellness is a fundamental human right and you deserve to feel better, even if your parents don’t want to help.

Which is why my mother homeschooled me. Couldn’t let the indoctrination happen. Just gotta pray away the self harm and eating disorder.

I know you're trying to help, but doing this made things at home so much worse for me. Child services had bigger fish to fry. Life would have been so much easier if I just dealt with it myself.

My dad would use my high school crisis against me until I stopped giving him the opportunity when I went no contact with him.

It's always ghosts in your blood

You should do cocaine about it.

"When was the last time you read your Bible?"

Thanks for nothing, mom.

Ngl, doom scrolling is called that for a reason. Taking a walk outside with your phone firmly in your pocket and not in your hand can help more than you would think. Humans simply didn't evolve to hear about all of humanities woes constantly.

It's true. We are wired to care about like 150 people max.
