How is the department whose entire job is cutting government spending going to help upgrade another agency?

[–] crime@hexbear.net 73 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Engineering interns are a machine for converting adderall into unmaintainable javascript apps, so probably something like that

[–] KurtVonnegut@hexbear.net 28 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The entire air-traffic control system will have one touch screen as its main interface.

[–] crime@hexbear.net 23 points 2 weeks ago

It's going to be run by an AI chatbot

Well, my desire to ever get on a plane again has plummeted further

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Boeing solidarity Musk

Making people afraid to fly.

[–] crime@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Right? I used to take solace in that I could usually fly on Carly Rae Jetsons or the odd airbus but the recent military-involved helicopter collision and gutting of ATC makes that no longer comforting

Plus, a tin can full of recycled air isn't great for spend a lot of time in considering covid, bird flu, etc

[–] blame@hexbear.net 45 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm not convinced "rapid upgrades" are the thing you want if your problem is stability and incident response.

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 21 points 2 weeks ago

Move fast and ~~break things~~ crash dozens of planes

[–] GnastyGnuts@hexbear.net 44 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

A military helicopter nearly crashed into my fucking house a few days ago, flying the lowest I've ever seen a helicopter flying, with a pack of like five other dipshits who were barely better.

I remember back on the old chapo sub, when some chuds came in making helicopter ride jokes, I replied that they'd just crash into a residential area like a bunch of dumbasses. Now I'm not sure whether I won that back-and-forth or if they did lol

[–] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago

You won... but at what cost

[–] jack@hexbear.net 43 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Remember when COVID was 9/11 every day?

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago

COVID's still doing a 9/11 every month or so, so it really depends how often these things crash.

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 40 points 2 weeks ago

the passive voice safety system failure thumb-cop

I was just talking to some people today about how when the DOGE-Os break a bunch of stuff, they are just going to blame it on someone else, and like clockwork ...

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 40 points 2 weeks ago

Grok is going to be the AI in charge of managing all air trafficvery-normal

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 34 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

so I'm just working under the assumption that every one of these "thingy broke for a few hours" is exactly the fault of these dipshits trying to crowbar their way in

like the medicaid site going down last week, no chance in hell that was a "normal" accident, these freaks fucked up something trying to get in

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 27 points 2 weeks ago

"What's the worst that could happen?" I ask right before I cut the big red wire.

[–] TechnoUnionTypeBeat@hexbear.net 33 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

the FAA's primary aircraft safety notification system failed for several hours!

And how many flights were delayed there, Mr. Smartest Man Alive?

(Zero, because the FAA failed over to a backup NOTAM system instead, because they have redundancies)

[–] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 2 weeks ago

Redundancy? That sounds expensive and wasteful, better slash their budget!

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 33 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

From the replies:

@Trumptonian- Bold move! 🚀 Can we trust crypto-savvy tech to fix such a critical system? Thoughts? 🤔 #AviationSafety $uap $ufo $drones $trump #bitcoin #crypto

@MarkTuwen86- Well, it looks like DOGE is aiming for the skies—literally! 🚀 While upgrading air traffic control systems isn't the usual role for a meme coin, the unpredictability of the crypto world never ceases to amaze. Who knows, maybe next we'll see blockchain-based flight plans?

@Heartz0fvalor- @elonmusk why do i have to pay property tax in Spokane

The rest is MAGA hogs and meme coin scams.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 26 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

@Imafuckinmoron69- #TrumpCOIN now all sale to all you nasty ass playas and hustlas out there!

@BloodNSoil4- I HATE TAXES

Cruelty Squad dialogue

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

Those first two have to be a bots that haven't had their system prompt updated. They clearly don't know that doge is not just a meme coin anymore.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 32 points 2 weeks ago

They're going to put it on the blockchain! so-true

[–] BilduEnjoyer@hexbear.net 31 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

OK some possibilities here:

  1. Stinky and the Unfuckable 6 are messing with air traffic control to trap civilians in the country, eroding trust and eventually making flying too risky.

  2. They’re actually just that stupid and they want to install Tesla AI in air traffic control.

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 19 points 2 weeks ago

I see it as pushing boundaries for control of agencies with more coup potential. "We're already in charge of the OPM and FAA. Why not NOAA? Why not the DOE? May as well throw in the DOD and intelligence apparatus."

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago

A thousand 9/11s when Full Self Flying goes into effect

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ships are a more scalable mass-exodus option anyway

[–] darkcalling@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm under the impression that passenger-liner ships basically don't exist after the airline industry killed them off? That those that do are long leisure cruises for rich boomers costing ten times an airline ticket. That COVID shut down spots on cargo ships, and cruise ships are definitely more expensive and don't tend to allow you to flee from the US to say Europe or anywhere specific but exploited parts of the third world around the US turned into vacation spots.

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I have heard you can pay for a room on board if you are shipping stuff internationally. Never done it myself and I doubt it’s glamorous.

[–] darkcalling@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

I saw a recent post from someone trying to get out via that route and the conclusion seemed to be that those trips have been suspended indefinitely since covid. They probably don't exist anymore or exist in such small quantities via such hoops and mazes that they might as well not.

[–] REgon@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

Why not both? Anyway assume dipshittery.

[–] Weedian@hexbear.net 31 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Starting to feel a lot less bad about getting out of aviation a few years ago

[–] REgon@hexbear.net 28 points 2 weeks ago

Lol remember when we said DOGE would probably just be a way to pacify Musk?
I forgot how much trump likes to golf and how much Musk likes to post. Making a law is basically posting except people are forced to care about it

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago

School Shooter 6

lmao this is exactly what you'd expect from the US version of the Gang of Four.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'd wager that when selling off the FAA to private companies inevitably causes problems, they will say it's actually better than it was before. All the while Boeings are colliding with each other above airports.

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Rewriting Atlas Shrugged but with air traffic control would probably sell well despite no one reading it

[–] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 weeks ago

Too much effort. Get an AI to rewrite Atlas Shrugged but with air traffic control and the Bazingas will go nuts for it.

[–] AnarchoSnowPlow@midwest.social 14 points 2 weeks ago

Needs more block chain.

[–] lemmyseizethemeans@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 2 weeks ago

Open the spigot fellas. Here comes the slush fund
