It's actually something that I've only experienced via my friends who experienced it as it was coming out, and who booby trap chats with memes related to it. My understanding is nowadays with flash out of the picture, it's not something you can really experience the way it started, right?

Cackled, I'll have to try and get this working on Linux
I discovered home stuck by the lemmy community showing up in my feed. I have absolutely no idea what it is.
I'll probably describe this badly, but here's the short version.
As the description says its a web comic from around 2009. It was created by a guy Named Andrew Hussie, after his pretty successful project "Problem Sleuth". It did some things different then other web comics in that it was (initially) allowing the audience to build the story. it also had a series of soundtracks around it including works from the creator of Undertale/Deltarune Toby Fox long before those games came out. The Song Megalovania that became such a huge meme is actually from Volume 5 of the Homestuck soundtrack well before it was in a game.
Anyway, this developed a huge fanbase of "Homestucks" that where generally given a bad reputation from other nerd subcultures. (not really sure why) As with anything this big its fraught with controversies. including (at the time) one of the most successful kick starter campaigns for a game that would ultimately go very poorly for its creator. The cannon stuff has long since ended though there is the beyond cannon series whichj is still ongoing (i think?)
