Remember: doing amphetamines makes you a really good detective tequila-sunset

im surprised DE has a fanbase in China , i always thought it was only popular in the west

I've started a game like 3 times and then stopped playing after a hour.

[–] Gorb@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If you're not hooked by empathising with a postbox then idk where you go from there

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I think the farthest I've gotten was Kim showing up and heckling me for not looking at the body hanging in the back of the hotel?

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Isn't that... the second or third conversation? In total?

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

tbf it was a pretty big fuck up, but he does end up forgiving you (probably) and the murder does get solved (spoilers). Also someone helps you find your gun.

Similar experience here but I played a few more hours than that and somehow became both a feminist and a communist in the game without really trying

Really need to go back to it some time

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

Yeah the first couple days of struggle turn off a lot of players early (including me). You just have to bear w it

[–] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

I stopped and started it a couple times myself. It's easy to get kinda stuck just wandering around. But I still think it's an amazing game and it's definitely worth playing and finishing imo.

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I started it up once, got through three novel's worth of text before I even made it down the stairs, and then shut it off because it was either that or put a bat through my screen.

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It was either read or destroy your computer? Tough

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

No it was either shut the game off or destroy my computer; reading a library's worth in text was not an option. If this game got a movie they'd have to have a narrator talking literally the entire runtime of the movie to relate all that info and then have him keep talking through the credits and like many, many hours after the movie's done running and everyone left the theater to convey all that, and then the sequel would just be narrator finishing up what he only just got started doing in the first movie.

EDIT: Like no really, I wanted to step into the game and batter the main character over the head with a bat and start screaming "shut up shut up shut up"; I ain't playing until they release a 'took his meds' version of the game.

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

Interesting way to interact with media! I hope they release a mentally-stable version of the game so you can play it, because it really is quite an experience

[–] CredibleBattery@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

remember to take breaks, because when this game sucks you in, in sucks you in for good!

[–] WasteTime@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

I've played for 18hs straight a few times and I fried my brain. Afterwards I was expecting a dialogue menu when talking to real people. I don't blame the game for being so good, it's my fault for playing sick and high.

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Look at this loser not playing balatro.

[–] lemmyseizethemeans@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Any time not spent playing balatro is loser time. Sorry I don't make the rules

[–] lemmyseizethemeans@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 month ago

Balatro on phone. Disco on everything else

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 12 points 1 month ago

I never finished it. People tell me losing dice checks is fun but it's not for me. Brings out my inner save scum. Would rather the system was deterministic.

[–] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

Btw it’s really cheap on gog right now if anyone else hasn’t played it

[–] gramxi@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

don't forget to try the chili

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

why hasn't anyone made an american version of DE where the borscht is chili

[–] Des@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

i feel like when i finally start reading some physical books again i'll be ready to tackle this game. kind of a reward

[–] WasteTime@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (4 children)

Has anyone here played all the game sober? (Not you but the character I mean!) Care to share their experience?

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There’s a smidge of recognition at the end if you do it sober, but not a ton of commentary throughout iirc

[–] WasteTime@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Cool. I still have to play this game as a communist, and I wanted to make a character who is strictly anti intoxicating substances, ultra nerdy, anti idealism and anti authority. So, low on skills like "authority", "espirit de corps", "inland empire", "shivers", and of course "electrochemistry".

About his signature skill, I was thinking about "rethoric" for this case. What do you all think?

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Perfect strat. Be prepared to take physical and dextrous Ls while reading hella lore. EDC, shivers, and inland empire can provide some of the best dialogue in the game, but this is a solid first time playthrough that should get you into the head of the main character.

[–] WasteTime@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Yeah, in my last play I had a lot of fun with high scores on inland empire, shivers and elecrochem, he was insane. The guy obviously became an ultraliberal.

[–] large_goblin@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I’ve only ever played the game on a sober run, Harry seemed to spend most of the game suffering from the cumulative hangover of five back to back benders and I couldn’t imagine wanting to make that worse .

ending infoThe cops in the end seemed genuinely surprised and had to break through their disbelief that Harry could actually be sober for a whole week.

[–] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

ty for censoring that because it's basically the only effect of playing without chemical enhancements

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

I do not remember playing this game sober, either me or the character. I did recycle a lot of bottles though

[–] Saoirse@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

I have only ever played the game sober. Some people say it doesn't reward you for this, but as a person who has defeated addiction, it is the absolute most accurate way to portray it. Your reward for sobriety is sobriety.

[–] Biggay@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

I think I got to the end of Day 3 before my HDD died and my save with it. I still havent gone back to it since.

[–] NewOldGuard@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago
[–] Saoirse@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

It is a life changing experience, you will not regret it.

[–] Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

I hope you pirated it!
