Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Law enforcement sources confirmed to local news outlets that the electric vehicle was rented from Turo, the vehicle-sharing service that was also used in the New Orleans attack on the same day. There, suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar used the Turo app to rent an electric Ford pickup truck used in that attack in the early hours of New Year’s Day, which killed 15 and injured dozens more.

[–] Sulvor@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah they changed the name cause it’s reputation was so bad

[–] StalinIsMaiWaifu@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 1 month ago

Even if nothing bad happened there it was weird to have a fort named for a Confederate

[–] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 62 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's funny. Literally no one thought this was an attack. Everyone saw a cybrertruck and there was zero suspicion that it didn't just do that on it's own

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 19 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Ehh I wouldn't say zero. I was about 50-50

[–] huf@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago (2 children)

it literally never occurred to me until now that it could be anything other than normal cybertruck stuff

[–] fuckwit_mcbumcrumble@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I only ever saw a picture of it on fire so this seemed kinda normal. Then my friend showed me the video of it actually exploding and it was pretty obvious they don't normally explode like that.

The explosion was kinda pretty, ~~but sucks that it killed someone (I assume the valet person)~~ Apparently just the driver died, but 7 other people were hurt.

Same except it was a couple of hours ago. I had to look at a tweet about the owner being an American named "Lifeisberger" twice before is sunk into my thick skull.

Every person at my new years day gathering (about 15 people) thought it was just Tesla shit.

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 40 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I don't get how a green beret could be such an embarrassing donkey of the week. There's a video from inside the lobby post-explosion and it didn't even seem to knock out the windows of the hotel. What did he think he'd accomplish and why would he half-ass it in such a comical way? That's the most nonsensical bombing since that RV in Tennessee a few years ago.

[–] Sickos@hexbear.net 52 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Firmly firmly firmly onboard the "this attack was not genuinely intended to do damage" train. Either this will end up (officially) being an "unfortunate accident" where some dude was just gonna go blow shit up in the desert and was staying at a trump hotel on his way there, and flicked his cigarette butt the wrong direction; or this dude's FBI-assigned "here's how to make a bomb" radicalization agent trained him wrong as a joke so that this could be used as a cybertruck & trump hotel ad.

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago

Wanting to blow shit up in the desert would be an Occam's razor explanation for having petrol cans and fireworks, and I could see a cybertruck guy being stupid enough to carry those things in a truck with an infamously electrified body. On that same tier I could see it being a spectacular suicide, like an obnoxious version of self-immolation with the most attention-grabbing vehicle he could rent.

[–] Sickos@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago (2 children)

There is some fucking hamfisted "the ford electric truck killed all these people" "the cybertruck saved everyone" "the brown dude was an evil terrorist" "forget about shooting CEOs" messaging being hammered into the collective subconscious. Hypernormalization marches on.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

We're gonna find out motor companies are actually radicalizing people to carry out terror attacks using their competitor's vehicle for the sole purpose of smearing it

[–] Bobson_Dugnutt@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Or his FBI handler loaded up the truck and told him "Drive this to the Trump casino in Vegas, don't ask any questions."

[–] PoY@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 month ago

this seems like the most simple explanation

[–] MemesAreTheory@hexbear.net 27 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Look, they're still crayon-eating dogs of the empire at the end of the day.

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago

They're crayon-eating dogs of empire, but green berets are specifically trained in explosives. It's like if a sniper tried to carry out a mass shooting with an airsoft gun and only managed to shoot themselves somehow.

RV in Tennessee a few years ago

And they still haven't rebuilt the restaurants on that street! Still mad about this. Glad other people still remember.

[–] Sulvor@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I was on that street like 2 or 3 days before it happened visiting my ex. Ate at some hot pot/Korean BBQ place which I think at least had its windows blown out.

[–] flicker@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago

I'm a basic bitch and furious the Melting Pot hasn't come back yet. They're rebuilding the whole area with kind of an open air mall concept and that could be nice but it is taking forever!

[–] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 38 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Guys... I'm starting to think that the US military might not be a great institution when it comes to producing well adjusted people.

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

you mean an institution with the explicit purpose of training killers is producing killers?

[–] Sickos@hexbear.net 37 points 1 month ago

They were BOTH army at the same time at the same base, both were career army for years, new Orleans guy left in 2015 but stayed in the reserve until 2020. fishe

[–] Abracadaniel@hexbear.net 32 points 1 month ago

Well, time to start dropping bombs on US Army bases, we must defeat this enemy!

[–] Kuori@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago

terrorist to terrorist pipeline running strong

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago (2 children)

So two army guys that may have had contact in their careers both rented electric trucks from the same company and did terrorism on the same day. If these are not related incidents, what the hell is going on?

[–] Sulvor@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago

We need to shut down the army till we can figure this out!

[–] Chapo_is_Red@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

Just Fort Bragg things

[–] IncensedCedar@hexbear.net 29 points 1 month ago (5 children)

I highly doubt that a green beret would not understand the difference between pyrotechnics and explosives. This seems like solid evidence in my mind that this was an accidental blast and that the terrorism story is fabricated.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

In a funnier universe, he was merely going to film a vertical, reactionary rant as a guy in a truck with sunglasses as these types typically do

The Tesla exploded because it just does that. Fireworks were also completely unrelated.

[–] IncensedCedar@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

I didn't think this is the case but I deeply want to believe this lol.

Depends on the certs he achieved during his time in SF, but I know the GBs do recieve the basics of explosive manufacturing and utilization training to round out their skill set for the purpose of augmenting their force multiplier potential when deployed to create and train paramilitary forces in hostile territories.

reference to unaliving. All I can think of that tries to exclude secret squirrel shit and goes non-conspiracybrain is that during his small window back in stateside, he went hogmode, tried to think of something cool that would appease the anger of his hog god-emperor and give the middle finger to the judas techno-demon at his side, went out to scout out good places to put on a show or was going to set up for the show, the demon machine spirit in his rent-a-can decides to BSOD on his ass and self-immolate while locking him inside, and super-trooper, knowing about how dogwater it is to burn to death decides to log out early.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

This was my hunch too, it also satisfies the propaganda purposes of pretending that musk & trump are poor wittle smol beans who are being persecuted

[–] 4am@lemm.ee 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Didn’t they announce that he had shot himself (or that someone shot him)? Makes this seem like much less of an accident

EDIT: LIFE IS BURGER

Counter point, having gotten the certification at one point doesn't meant that he spent all his time doing the "things".

Its not unheard of for soldiers to get certs and special training for the pins, patches, ribbons, promotion points, and bragging rights then just never do much with them.

Still want to believe the more funny reality that CloutAtlas described though.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They work for the state murdering poor people for decades, then everyone acts surprised when they attack pale skins. I guess they didn't blow up many cybertrucks in the army. Kind of a fail.

Just a small note, but this sounds like Biden's quote, lmao, correct yer statement just a bit

'poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids'

[–] Juiceyb@hexbear.net 24 points 1 month ago

Don't fall for it y'all. This wasn't a terrorist attack at all. This wasn't some idiot who didn't properly stored flammable materials properly. The police have been saying "possibly" or "probably" when it comes to this being intentional. We all know these people aren't that smart and this is literally the most frothingfash way to die.

[–] Hohsia@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Off topic but I hate the news so fucking much. Kinda comical how it can be called “news” in the first place tbh

I just assume that the big stories are fabricated or outright lies
