That’s a good one. There is Lost Trail Sarsaparilla where I live and it is awesome. It’s the first Sarsaparilla that I’ve had so I’m biased.

How is this still sold? I thought the FDA banned these types of products a long time ago because of a known carcinogenic, safrole. Or did they figure out a way to remove the safrole from the original main ingredient?

You can use sassafras with the safrole removed.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

TIL sassafras is a real plant/tree/whatever and not a word used to say something is nonsense.

The word is in your hands. He asked me to repeat that. The word is in your hands, Dude.

The original recipe rooted beers and sarsaparilla does contain safrole. Safrole has been considered a carcinogen but is not present in modern soft drinks. There is some channels on U Tube that have been making classic root beers and sarsaparilla with the safrole ingredient and their infependent research has concluded that, while homemade is better, the safrole doesnt really add anything.

Isn't safrole used to make MDMA and/or MDA?

[–] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 3 points 3 months ago

I’ve had it. It’s pretty good.
