Those are dad rock now? I grew up with many of those... I'm a dad now but I thought dad rock is Metallica, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Hurriganes, et cetera

The unstoppable, never ending march of time is much darker than anyone could sing about.

Pink Floyd did it:

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day

You fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way

Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town

Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain

And you are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking

Racing around to come up behind you again

Sun is the same, in a relative way, but you're older

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time

Plans that either come to naught, or half a page of scribbled lines

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way

The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

My favorite Pink Floyd song.

Satisfies both the unstoppable, never ending march of time AND dad rock: Time by Pink Floyd

[–] nehal3m@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 months ago

Yeah agreed, although I would consider Pink Floyd grandpa rock at this point

[–] XTL@sopuli.xyz 14 points 5 months ago

I think that's the joke.

[–] CallMeButtLove@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Same. I'm a huge In Flames fan and having a slight panic after reading that.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 months ago

I saw them open for… Unearth I believe? I had never heard In Flames before that show. LOVED them.

[–] not_woody_shaw@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Queen...

Fair enough. Not too sure of the difference. The uncle is cooler than the dad?

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Ah cool. Thanks for the clarification. SOAD is definitely better than most (if not all) those bands mentioned.

I went to a Sevendust concert a couple weeks ago, i was really surprised that the crowd was mostly old guys like me. They were fucking awesome.

[–] SlapnutsGT@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Oh man I love Sevendust. When I lived in Atlanta I bet I saw them live 100 times.

Can confirm I’m an old fuck

Loved Chocolate Star Fish and Hot Dog flavored water

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 0 points 5 months ago

I was only commenting on their music. I rarely know any details of the musicians themselves.

[–] aport@programming.dev 9 points 5 months ago

Static X is the shit. Throw in some Powerman 5000 and I'll live the rest of my days happy in the nursing home

I know In Flames went to shit the last two decades, but listen to their 90s catalogue. It wasn't mainstream at all, and it was/is their best music by far. It feels wrong as fuck to group them with these other bands. Gothenburg melodeath activated!

[–] Soulg@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 months ago

They're still good though lol just obviously moved away from the 90a melodeath

Clayman is amazing

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago

I thought dadrock was Ocean Colour Scene!

[–] Asafum 4 points 5 months ago
