Maybe the mice aren’t looking into her eyes.
Clearly a photograph doesn't count, or the reader which is looking at an image of her eyes would turn to stone.
That line of thought is what ruined the weeping angels. Better not.
I know weeping angels are something to do with doctor who, but what are they, and how were they ruined?
