Neither, enjoy them there but when you leave they are for the forest to keep

[–] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

preach

but to answer the memes question, the stick. I'd get only a few seconds of enjoyment from skipping the rock (and I suck at rock skipping, so it probably wouldn't be very good anyway), but that stick won't need to leave me until I leave it.

[–] klemptor@startrek.website 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Exactly. Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints.

[–] TheHottub@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Agreed. But look at that stick. Perfectly balanced with cross guard.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

That stick won’t last very long in the forest.

The rock, put it back and no one will find it for centuries. Maybe it’s fair to take it so others can see it and appreciate its beauty.

[–] GottaHaveFaith@kbin.social 32 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Sticks are temporary, but rocks are forever

[–] Lemjukes@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

H2O has entered the chat

[–] Vigilante@lemmy.today 1 points 1 year ago

Akshually thats factually untrue 🤓

[–] Jilanico@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Once you got the stick, ain't nobody gonna tell you that you can't take the rock too.

Exactly. Raise the stick over your head and scream: I HAVE THE POWER!

[–] MeDuViNoX@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What if they throw the rock at your head, knock you out, and take your stick?

[–] Jilanico@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Swing batter.

[–] Draegur@lemm.ee 24 points 1 year ago

Stick. No question. No hesitation. That's a damn good stick.

Rock for sure. That thing would make me happy every time I see it for years. The stick is neat but I'm probably just gonna break it by accident.

[–] wizzor@sopuli.xyz 18 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Oh no. I distract my wife and take them both?

[–] natecox@programming.dev 6 points 1 year ago

Is there any other option? There’s no way to just leave one of those behind. It is just unthinkable.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

It’s ok. I’ll distract your wife.

[–] Sabata11792@kbin.social 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I want the stick, but I know the rock is all around more practical.

[–] Empricorn 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

I understand that this is a hypothetical scenario. So please, educate me on how taking a rock vs a stick being "practical" isn't a wild argument...

[–] Sabata11792@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Honestly, people might judge me for carrying a stick out of the woods, a rock can get stuffed in my pocket. The stick will eventually lose its charm and just be in the way. The rock is small and can be forgotten and not be in the way.

[–] Empricorn 2 points 1 year ago

I would never judge you for that. You are a rock person, and I think that's awesome.

[–] exocrinous@startrek.website 1 points 1 year ago

You can use the rock as a crude handaxe to crush and cut things, such as reed fibers to tie the wooden sticks of your hut together. You can make do with plenty of subpar sticks, but a subpar rock is going to multiply the work it takes to get a roof over your head.

[–] BowtiesAreCool@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I’d argue stick is more practical. You’re already outdoors, stick gives you walking aid, brush clearing, spider web first defense, potential weapon. Even non perfect rocks are useful but a great stick is mikes ahead of a wonky one.

[–] Sabata11792@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The stick seems less of a win. Its big and cumbersome once it outlives its usefulness or it breaks. The rock can provide longer but smaller returns, and can outlive your ancestry if taken care of.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The rock would make a better weapon than that stick.

[–] BowtiesAreCool@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Press X to doubt.

Stone has one use as a thrown weapon, and you must have accuracy. It could be used as a blunt instrument but that requires very close proximity.

Alternatively you can sharpen the stick, and have a length to keep things at bay.

[–] SharkEatingBreakfast@sopuli.xyz 13 points 1 year ago

Stick.

Stick can go "swoosh" when you swing it.

[–] kogasa@programming.dev 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'll take the stick and use it to make you give me the rock.

[–] Dippy@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You're going to risk breaking the stick for the rock?

[–] kogasa@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago

It's a perfect stick, it cannot break, look at it

[–] ArmoredThirteen@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 year ago

I've already got a perfect stick so I'd go with the rock. If I did not have my perfect stick though, rough choice. That's a damn fine stick

[–] dumbass@lemy.lol 10 points 1 year ago

Stick, I'm better at swinging than I am at throwing.

[–] ma1w4re@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Stick, I love swords

[–] morphballganon@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Bruh the rock is coming regardless. The only question is whether you have room for the stick too

If you don't have room for the stick inside the house, leave it next to the back door

[–] nyhetsjunkie@beehaw.org 7 points 1 year ago

No thanks, I'll keep my bones

[–] blackfire@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Rock. Look at it.

[–] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Rock. Then I use it to crack the skull of the dude who took the stick and now I have both.

[–] tacotroubles@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I already have a pretty perfect rock. But a perfect stick is a rare find. I think I'll take another rock

[–] Lucien@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

I would be sad about leaving either, with full blown buyer's remorse for the other one. So knowing me, and agreeing with the other commenters about taking only memories, I'd probably opt to leave both and smile that I found them.

[–] misterundercoat@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

The rock of course. Why would you want a stick that has the thin proportions of a sword? A thin, lightweight sword only works because of the sharp blade. A "perfect" stick would be more of a straight pole, or have a heavier end for bludgeoning.

[–] Kacarott@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

If there is a body of water nearby then rock, otherwise stick. Getting a perfect skipping rock for the perfect throw is a rare and beautiful thing

[–] VelvetStorm@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Depends on where the rock is from or what kind of wood.

[–] secret300@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 11 months ago

See I thought the stick was the obvious choice but now I'm drunk and that rock looks so good

[–] Mango@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Stick. I can make a perfect rock.

[–] RatBin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I have a perfectly round rock. Some of those bouncy balls as well. I confused one for the others, I thought it'd bounce but it broke a tile.

[–] Vigilante@lemmy.today 1 points 1 year ago

I'll take both . Thanks

[–] feedum_sneedson@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

The rock of course, what kind of stupid question is this.
