But why would you buy this? It looks like its lighting to usb c and in that case why not just use usb c? I know most modern macs have usb c and I would assume if you have the new phone that would necessitate this dongle you would also have the newer mac or PC with a usb c.

Also this is apple they sell wheels for like $900. https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/product/MX572ZM/A/apple-mac-pro-wheels-kit

It’s not to adapt cables, it’s to adapt accessories.

Did not know there are that many lightning accessories, thought mac mostly went wireless with those?

Things like thisor this.

There are more, but there are plenty of lightning based accessories and peripherals that people may not be ready to drop for the time being.

Yeah. If you’re spending $1500 on the brand new iPhone I’m sure an extra $30 to still be able to use your accessories isn’t a big deal.

Just stay a couple years behind on Apple stuff and it’s not that expensive. I got a brand new iPhone 11 for $300 a in 2021 (it released in 2019). I’ll use it for probably four years. In 2025 I’ll probably be buying this year’s model.

Ah yes, the "madcat" stuff. I must admit I did not think of those.

[–] stebo02@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

i guess so you can use your old lightning cable?

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I guess? Spending $30 to have that tumour on your cable vs $10 or $15 for a nice usb c seems very apple.

[–] stebo02@sopuli.xyz 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sure but the apple usb-c cable will be $60 and you can't expect an apple user to buy non-apple products

I wonder if people will try to tell me in the future that the apple branded usb cables are better?

[–] stebo02@sopuli.xyz 0 points 2 years ago

of course they will
