It’s a specialty adapter. Almost nobody needs it, but if you need it, you really need it.

The price reflects this.

It sort of makes me low grade pissed off, but much less than the other ways capitalism preys on the needy.

Yeah the product description does that it's mean to connect cameras and stuff to your iPad. I think this thing predates the whole USB c on iphones.

How would you connect a camera with this? That must be an error. USB c port on the iPad, and then lightning to micro b? Am I missing something?

but the adapter in the picture is male usb c and female lightning
