— I thought Mamdani was supposedly based, but unfortunately he is an ultra-liberal and pro 'queer'

I do not care anymore if he wins or loses, except that it will be funny to see the U.S. establishment seethe.

He does not represent Islam or Muslims, he's just another liberal apparently using Islam and his ethnicity to appeal to voters.

Crazy that all it takes to go from "based" to "ultra-liberal" is sticking up for queer folks. Never mind the de-fund the imperial storm troopers message.

Yeah, I saw that post from Middle East Spectator. Very sad to see that post. Now, that makes me wonder if conservative muslim are usually like that(assuming the authors behind Middle East Spectator are muslim as well)?

If they are, then they seem to act very similarly to conservative christians in the Latin America. I haven't investigated anything about muslims in terms of their reaction to queer folks.

I think it's more a result of American cultural hegemony than religious conservatism. The anti-LGBTQIA+ culture that dominated most of the 20th century spread around the globe and especially to places where US imperialism had a strong foothold. Now de-colonial and anti-imperialist movements reject this cultural hegemony as it becomes more inclusive of these groups. They're rejecting an undoing of this chauvinism without recognizing that it was this same cultural hegemony that created it in the first place.

A lot of Muslims you'll see online, particularly on social media and on these political topics, are only in it for sectarian reasons, they are whipped up into such a frenzy by mostly comprador outlets like Al Jazeera and Middle East eye, that they genuinely would condemn pro Palestinian forces if given some stupid religious reason, as they did with the Syrian Arab republic, and as they very well may with Mamdani.
