It's depressing for us too. Trade with the US is too important for the economy, and the shadow of Deng still looms as subconscious distrust of China, which is wild considering how much western / Amerikkkan culture is desired and promoted. The whole south is fairly reactionary and politically apathetic, most Việt kiều are even worse...

All the bookstores near us are literally all glowing hagiographies of Donald Trump, Eric Trump, Warren Buffet, Glenn Beck, Henry Kissinger. No joke. It vexes me.

... Vietnam what happened to you. Here I thought it had something to do with the US making Vietnam pay reperations to the US for the Vitnam war... I do hope that the realationship between the PRC and Vietnam gets better within my lifetime

Families of US collaborators, western NGOs, CIA universities, penetration by foreign capital, and a desire for luxury goods and to feel what middle-class wealth looks like in media.

Still better than the USians on all fronts. China relationship is the best is has probably ever been in all recorded history.

I mean I guess that makes sense, Vitnam ranks usualy within the top 3 countries that "americans should retire to"
