World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Biden wouldn't be proposing beach front real estate for one. Biden wasn't the one saying the only thing Israel is doing wrong is not going fast enough.

What was Biden saying? Oh, right:
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cq6g4694vygo
"During Sunday's call, which was the first to be publicly announced since October, Biden "stressed the immediate need for a ceasefire in Gaza and return of the hostages with a surge in humanitarian aid enabled by a stoppage in the fighting under the deal".
So, the polar opposite of "finish it quick, get rid of the Palestinians, steal the real estate."
https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20250429-biden-never-pressured-israel-for-ceasefire-as-israeli-officials-boast-of-exploiting-us-support/
Biden never did anything to pressure Israel. The actions of both of them are pretty much the same.
Why don't you ask yourself why the Democrats chose to fight for Israel rather than their own country? Why did they refuse to take a meaningful stand? It's not like they didn't know/had data about how many leftist voters felt about the issue.
"My job is to keep the left pro-israel" ~ chuck Schumer
"Not actively pressuring" is far different from "actively encouraging".
If you listen to the edgy teenagers you'd think Biden was out there pulling the trigger himself and that absolutely was not the case.
But then they're of the co-hort that anything bad that happens is automatically the fault of the US.
Why do the Democrats fight for Israel? Same reason the Republicans do... MONEY. It's all about money, always has been.

Yeah he was just cool handing out the gun and watching from the side lines when it was used.
You can't seriously still be arguing Biden was doing anything to stop the genocide? Every president before him stopped Israel with a call and Biden just let it happen
I agree Biden could have done more, but that doesn't make him responsible. At worst he was a doddering old man whose views on Israel were formed before any of us were born and never updated for the shit they've been pulling since the 90s.
You have to understand, for folks of Biden's generation, Israel is the victim. They've never heard of things like "Punitive Demolition":

Or are aware that while doing that, Israel actually killed an American:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Corrie
His actions and support absolutely makes him responsible. He saw what was happening and gave Israel unwavering support.

Hell he was even doing it as Obamas VP

Republicans were better at stopping conflicts than Biden...

In line with my above comment:
"At worst he was a doddering old man whose views on Israel were formed before any of us were born and never updated for the shit they've been pulling since the 90s."
How does saying oh it's okay that he let all those people die, he was just old and still wanted to be the one in charge absolve him of anything?
Why do you try so hard to protect his image?
He didn't "let" anything. Bibi flat out wasn't listening to anyone, Biden was not special in that regard.
The only way you're going to stop the genocide in Gaza is to invade Israel and make them stop. Nobody has the balls to do it.
You see how that's worse right? Biden gave unconditional support and assistance to someone actively working against him and ignoring him.
Or was he just too senial to know he was getting taken advantage of while being president and actively campaigning?
Oh, it's definitely worse. Biden was absolutely blind to what Bibi was doing to him.
And yet still you pedanticly defend Biden for his atrocious actions and manner he handled the situation.
Manner, yes, but I wouldn't call weak action "atrocious". He got owned by Bibi, not sure why he allowed that.
But the blame for the genocide is ALL on Bibi and Likud. Our fault is failing to recognize it for what it is.
Honestly atrocious is the kindest way I could phrase how terrible his actions are.
I'm not sure how to even respond to someone who is trying to carry water for him either.
It's super simple, you lay the blame where it belongs, on Bibi and Likud. Leave the old man out of it.
the old man was why it was able to continue
No, no it was not. As I've already said, Israel's retaliation started immediately on 10/7 before we approved a single dime of aid, much less sent any. They don't NEED our help. They'll USE it, but they don't NEED it.
You can stop giving them weapons, you can actually try something. If you think us cannot tell Israel what to do then you are blind
Says the guy with the flag of Russia on his name. My irony detector went supernova.
But hey, props to you for not hiding it like many others here do.
