I understand every single word and am up to date about what's happening in LA and some other places, but can't make sense of this. Can someone please simplify this for me?
Someone was pictured with Mexican flag in a striking photo and a lot of news outlets/pundits etc are making a big deal out of how it might offend the hypothetical "swing voter" to see a non-us flag associated with the protest and how its "bad optics." This poster is saying maybe instead of endlessly speculating about what protests are doing that might offend disconnected third parties instead that effort should be spent telling these swing voters to grow up.
Millions of American people with Irish ancestry fly or even have the Irish flag tattooed on themselves. They even flew it in protests and marches last year over how Biden responded to the genocide in Gaza, but I'm sure that's totally different
I can’t qwhite put my finger on what the difference is 🤔
People are flying Mexican flags, and other people are saying maybe that's not the best look.
Even you!
I wonder if ilovethebomb was also against the Canadian flag being flown at protests acknowledging the annexation threats? (^^as a Canadian I appreciated it)
The fact you're wondering this says more about you than it does me.
I think it's the opposite of a bad look, they are saying I'm from another country and yet I belong here. Without the flag it doesn't highlight the multiculturalism that makes America great. I think it is important to show that they are immigrants and they have every right to be here.
Fair point, but do you think that's the message other people are getting from this?
By the same logic any pride flag should be hidden. Black people raising their fist? Should be hidden. Flying the union flag in the south? Should be hidden.
Best not to talk about slavery, discrimination, LGBT, religious minorities and other things. You know, not to risk people misinterpreting the message.
The union flag is the flag of a group of who declared war with the States and tried to secede, so yeah.
Pride flag isn't the flag of a foreign country, so I'm not sure why you're talking about that.
What the fuck are you talking about? The ones who tried to secede were famously the Confederacy, the South. Did this motherfucker just try to "no u" the civil war?
I thought they were talking about the confederates, I'm not familiar with the terminology you guys use.
I'm also a bit baffled why you bought this up, to be honest.
They don't really care if people in protests live or die as long as they can stroke their each others prejudices.
US was built on genocide, opression, slavery and immigrants. This vile attempt to somehow shield yourself from "messages" that offend you is what led to this mess.
They were obviously ecstatic when Hongkong protest for democracy were waving US flags like it meant freedom and liberty. It was all awesome and sent good messages, but now, es no bueno.

So much propaganda that people are worried about the "message" than actual history.
