Where do people get books from, if they dont buy them off Amazon or pay subscription to unlimited access?
I’ve started torrenting. Found a nice private tracker that seems to have everything and does audiobooks too. Libgen and anna’s archive are really good too
Kobo store, Google Play Books, and various other places (here in Sweden for example we have Bokus and Adlibris) have Epub downloads. Usually with Adobe Digital Editions DRM (which you can get rid of pretty easily with DeDRM, or alternatively Kobo tablets support Digital Editions), but some books are sold DRM free, or with LCP DRM which I don't have experience with. Something I've noticed at least on Bokus is that many books in Swedish are sold as DRM free Epubs with watermarks, even if they're translated from an English version which is sold with DRM on the same store, though that's probably not relevant for people in other regions.
Look for an icon that resembles a ship. It symbolises sailing through all the misleading webpages and takes you straight to your desired resource. It looks something like this....
For books, library genesis would be a better place to look than piratebay though.
I use Annas(hyphen)archive(dot)org
Mostly Kobo
https://bookshop.org/ (formerly https://www.indiebound.org/ebooks I think) donates a percentage to a local bookstore (of your choosing iirc, haven't bought or even torrented a book in a while).
They don't have everything, but a lot.
Kobo for other things.
Baen library has drm free books one could buy.
