If you end it there it's a tragedy. But if you use the "1 in 10,000" approach and introduce them to both their music and how it changed music, then you might win another fan. You might even get a "oh, yeah, I've heard that riff".
I mean theyre pretty tame by modern standards.

I'm a Beastie Boys fan, but I don't think most of their stuff stands the test of time. Other than Paul's Boutique and Sabotage, they weren't really groundbreaking most of the time. They were fun, and had some good tunes, but I wouldn't list them as one of the groundbreaking acts that changed music.
Ditto - plus, Pharcyde were dominating them at the time with clever lyrics, and Beastie Boys themselves knew they couldn't compete
