Summary

Michigan farmer Rebecca Carlson, a longtime Trump supporter, faces bankruptcy as Trump’s funding freezes stall a $400,000 USDA grant for hiring temporary workers.

Carlson, who hoped Trump’s second term would revive her struggling cherry farm, already spent $200,000 preparing for labor under the H-2A visa program.

With funding halted, she risks losing $200,000 more and can’t move forward with critical hires.

Trump’s new tariffs and immigration crackdowns threaten agriculture costs and labor availability, leaving farmers uncertain and frustrated with unmet promises.

but I assume this is a face-eating leopard farm

In sooo many ways.

  • Voted for leopard, leopard's tariffs are screwing her over
  • Was awarded a $400,000 grant (under Biden) but now that's frozen, can't get reimbursed.
  • Can't hire H-2A visa workers.
  • "Nobody wants to work anymore" attitude
  • Complaining she had to spend $200,000 of her own money to renovate her house. Claims it's a business expense.
  • Can't use taxpayer money to pay her staff and can't stay afloat without government subsidies she would likely deny anyone else.

The usual "I got mine" attitude and subsequent whining when the consequences of their own actions finally affects them personally.

Did any Trump voters except billionaire Nazis pay attention to what they were voting for? Or was "he's a racist white man who will hurt minorities" actually all they knew and cared about?

Trump is a vibe. Most elections are determined on vibes. Less educated white folk feel he's their guy. It doesn't matter that his stated policies will fuck them. They feel like he'll look out for their interests and that's really all it takes. Galvanizing this demogtaphic is how he won both the 2016 and 2024 elections.

that vibe is fox news and other right propaganda

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

It’s the racist thing and never let any of them tell you different

[–] Wispy2891@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

"in this family we vote R since the beginning of time, we will continue to do so regardless to who's running for said party"

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There were a considerable number of voters who voted for Trump because he wasn't actively participating in GeNoCiDe. Many of them post here.

I hope they're allowed to stay in the country now, since I wouldn't count on citizenship status keeping those people from getting sent to Gitmo (or El Salvador)

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I had the impression those people were mainly advocating for not voting, or voting third party.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago

Which, in a two-party, first-past-the-post system, amounts to voting for Trump. They simply could not realize this.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Right, and each one of those people also contributed to his victory, and the shitshow that is happening right now.

I at least have some sympathy for the third-party voters. It's not their fault that expressing their opinion is meaningless because of how our elections are structured. But anyone who stayed home was effectively half a vote for Trump, and bear part of the blame for enabling his behavior.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Effectively they supported Trump, but I think it's misleading to say they "voted for Trump".

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 9 points 3 days ago

They may not have voted, but they chose the outcome.

[–] heavy@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, the nobody wants to work bullshit sticks out here particularly to me.

Imagine doing backbreaking labor and you come home to not afford a damn thing. There's no way they don't see how expensive it is just to exist, but then snub their fellow Americans who are also trying to put food on the table.

[–] Nusm@yall.theatl.social 18 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Nobody wants to work = Nobody wants to work for YOU.

Lots of people want to work, they just want a livable wage and good working conditions.

“Why won’t anybody let me exploit them?!?”

[–] blazeknave@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

They're talking about waste and I'm paying for her fucking remodel from my blue state coffers? Fuck her business. Freeloading parasite.

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

And they get a news article written about them for some reason
