Israel has been trying to provoke Lebanon into war for decades now.

Presumably, they've upped their efforts recently because they need a diversion behind which to implement their final solution in Gaza.

There was that policy paper from 2009 which was a roadmap to provoke full war with Iran. It might be argued the the current genocide in Gaza and the West Bank may have been manufactured for that reason, and failing to get the response they wanted, Isn'treal is locked into continuing escalation. It's probably both.
