Oud-staatssecretaris Frans Weekers vs de toenmalige directeur van de Belastingdienst Dennis Blansjaar kunnen niet genoeg naar elkaar wijzen.

DE twee mannen op het koppelvlak tussen het ministerie en de belastingdienst claimen allebij dat ze machteloos waren om er iets aan te doen en dat ze altijd duidelijk zijn geweest dat redelijkheid belangrijk was. We hebben allemaal kunnen zien waar het onder deze heren toe geleid heeft.

Hebben jullie het idee dat er veel nepnieuws is in aanloop naar de verkiezingen?

Ik heb het idee dat ik veel minder (nieuwe) gekke geluiden hoor, dan vorige verkiezingen, misschien omdat de politiek al wat rumoerig is momenteel. Het artikel deed me twijfelen.

Renate Jansen maakt twee minuten voor tijd het winnende doelpunt voor het Nederlands elftal in het duel met Engeland in de groepsfase van de Nations League.

An ATM branded “Your ATM Services” was inside a convenient store with a signposting saying “reasons why your bank card may not be returned”:

1. the card is damaged
2. fraud is suspected
3. your PIN is entered incorrectly 3 times

Is that stupid or what? I went to a different ATM.

1. If the machine thinks my card is damaged, I would still like my card back because who’s to say the machine’s ability to read the card is not broken? Or maybe the EMV chip contacts just need to be cleaned.

2. “fraud” is flagged by AI algorithms that are often wrong. If you misjudge the forex rate and accidentally ask for more than your limit, that’s sufficient to trigger the card being flagged for fraud. Once the card is swallowed, your chance to simply clear things up with a phone call to your bank are gone.

3. We get 3 tries at our pin for a good reason. The first attempt can easily be botched because you enter the pin for the wrong card. The 2nd attempt might repeat that same mistake because you thought maybe your hand entered something different than your brain intended (motor skills & muscle memory). The 3rd can be any number of other things. So you think “i’ll stop if I get it wrong twice”. Then you go to another ATM. Then your bank’s AI algo says changing machines after a wrong pin is suspicious.

I suppose they’re trying to discourage thieves from using stolen cards at that ATM. But in effect the rules are stacked against legit consumers.

It’s bizarre that these are legal reasons to swallow the card. And makes me wonder what other ATMs have that policy without telling you.

There’s a huge chain of ATMs in Netherlands called Geldmaat which is a partnership of Ing, Rabobank, ABN AMRO, possibly others.

So I have several questions w.r.t privacy:

• when you draw money out, do all those banks have access to the transaction?

• if you use a Rabobank card, does Ing see the transaction?

• if you use a foreign card that is not associated to any of the partnered banks, which bank handles the transaction?

This trend is picking up in other countries as well and it seems no articles that announce these changes are talking about the #privacy consequences.

I went to a cafe in Amsterdam which turned out to not only be cashless, but their payment processor was “Zettle”. Zettle is owned by #PayPal (who shares customer data with over 600 corporations).

So my question is, apart from the expected privacy consequence of your bank & the recipient’s bank recording your transaction, what does Paypal walk away with? Paypal is a data-abusing US-based company. But OTOH the shop is in a #GDPR region. Does the GDPR give any protection in this case?

IIUC, customers consent by default to their data being processed by the merchant & whoever the merchant hires (Paypal), and from there whoever paypal shares with & on down the endless chain. The only notable GDPR protection I can think of is that the data must remain in the EU. So the transaction data cannot be sent to Paypal’s servers in the USA -- correct?

BTW, I asked the owner why he trusts Zettle & also why he does not accept cash. He conceded right away that he didn’t like it either. He said he’s cashless for security and that when he looked at a number of electronic payment systems, Zettle was the cheapest. For me, “cheapest” is a red flag. It’s probably cheap because the data is probably being monetized.

(edit) Concrete question: if an American feeds a US-issued credit card into a #Zettle terminal to buy a creme-filled artery-hardening pastry in Amsterdam, is there anything to stop Paypal from doing the processing on the US-side of the transaction before selling that info to a US health insurance company?

Vergeleken met andere westerse landen zijn Nederlanders niet uitzonderlijk veel kwijt aan zorg.

Ok dus ik ben net naar het toilet geweest en er schiet me opeens een brandende vraag naar binnen: Hoe gebruiken jullie het woord "noch"? Ik heb het namelijk in meerdere vormen gezien en vroeg me af of er een correcte versie is.

De versies die ik eerder heb gezien zijn:

• Ik heb het een noch het andere gedaan
• Ik heb niet het een noch het andere gedaan
• Ik heb niet het een noch niet het andere gedaan
• (Ik heb het ene niet gedaan en het andere ook niet gedaan) (sommige mensen gebruiken het woord "noch" gewoon niet)

Ik ben persoonlijk voorstander van versie 2, aangezien het duidelijk een opsomming van ontkenningen aanduidt, maar ik vraag me af of er mensen zijn die er andere gedachtes over hebben
