Elden Ring release - Russia invades Ukraine

Shadow of the Erdtree release - Biden shows off his dementia on live TV (or maybe it was other thing, I don't remember)

Bloodborne 2 announcement - JDPON DON does the thing

I'm tracking previous FromSoft releases, if I stop posting know that I'm not suicidal

“Well, the Joy-Con 2’s controllers have been designed from the ground up,” said Nate Bihldorff, senior vice president of product development and publishing. “They’re not Hall Effect sticks, but they feel really good.”

To the 3-5 pain piggies somehow lurking this site still: Do. not. buy.

You finally have a game that is a beautifully animated avant garde passion project that not only wasn't rushed, the dev released it for free. In a year full of overpriced corporate slop and microtransaction BS destroying the industry, It's a breathe of fresh air to have a simple, fun game that is experimental, weird, that is both visually and audibly stunning. And again, it's free.

So how does the chat of one of the most popular streamers react to it?

Try hard

Too weird

Zoomer humour

I'm convinced gamers hate games.

Like I know it's a dumb thing to complain about idiots being contrarian on the internet, because it's nothing new, but it just annoys me that people can't just let something be art. Particularly when this project clearly had a lot of heart and soul put into it.

Got home from work early today and could hear playful giggles from the living room. As I neared I could more clearly make out her saying stuff like "oh yeah, I like that," "it looks so big," and also kept saying Mario over and over (mispronounced). Walked into the livingroom and she hastily closed the laptop resting on her thighs. Her breath heavy and face covered with shame.

I asked her what she was just watching and she said nothing. Said she was justst looking up Light Switches online, was thinking about preordering 2 of them for the bedroom maybe.

I forced open the laptop and the video immediately started playing. I closed it. I was so disgusted. She said she was going to boycott it in solidarity with me. But here she was hyping herself up with this E-rated smut.

I don't know if I will ever trust her again. Especially stings because I've been boycotting Konami with/for her because her brother was killed by a poorly designed DDR dance mat.

Month old, but no early access plans is based. I believe FireWo Games is making the right choices to succeed with this ambitious game. Chinese gaming, ftw.

Looks super cool, sci-fi post-apocalyptic forever war, visible inventory, low-poly, single player focus, mechs, base building, spaceships, open-ended progression, faction choices, all of this combined makes it seem like a pretty ideal game for me. Looks to be coming into Early Access around July 2025! What are y'alls thoughts?

The aesthetic appeals to me and i like point and click games

This might be obvious to some people but I just figured it out and I feel like a genius for it.

I wanted to make some ROMS readily accessible on my kids' laptop because I hate menu diving in Retroarch to do anything, even launch the last game played.

There's no native way to save a favourite or a configuration from Retroarch to your desktop for quick access either.

But then I figured out you can pretty much do that with Lutris. You select a ROM, it 'installs' it for you - where it pulls some metadata and configuration from the internet, then it comes up in Lutris like a regular game and you can add a shortcut from there.

It still uses Retroarch in the background, but it makes playing and configuring ROMs so much easier, and is probably a good option if you're trying to play a game from an obscure platform or something from one of the weird cores.

The international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement are calling on people to cancel Game Pass subscriptions, avoid Microsoft-owned video game properties such as Minecraft and Call Of Duty, and boycott all Microsoft Gaming and Xbox-branded products in protest at the company’s reported business connections with the Israeli military.

The call follows allegations this January about the Israeli military’s usage of Microsoft’s Azure cloud technology and artificial intelligence products in the course of its bombardment and invasion of Gaza.

According to a joint investigation between the Guardian, Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 Magazine and Hebrew-language outlet Local Call, with additional reporting from Drop Site News, Microsoft have “deepened” their relationship with Israel’s defence establishment since 7th October 2023, when several Palestinian militant groups struck across the border and massacred over a thousand people. Israel responded to the attack by mounting a ground offensive and airstrikes that have destroyed much of Gaza and killed tens of thousands of Palestinians.

When emulating games on an Android phone, I've noticed a few systems, like PS1 and PSP, suffering from intermittent stutters, usually when loading sound effects or music. On Duckstation you can see the FPS drop to half for about a second when this happens. I initially chalked this up to issues with the emulators themselves or my phone not being exactly top of the line, but then I thought about the nature of the stutters and began to wonder if the problems were caused by the ROMs being stored on an SD card.

I moved a game that had stuttering issues to the phone's internal storage and sure enough, the stutters were gone. Would getting a faster SD card help? Here are the card's stats:

  • Speed Class: 10 (10 MB/s)
  • UHS Speed Class: Class 1 (10MB/s)
  • UHS Bus Speed: UHS-1 (Up to 104MB/s)

It isn't exactly top of the line either, being the cheapest one I could get for the size and quite old on top of that. On the other hand, I also came across posts where people were saying SD card read speeds on Android are just generally bad, especially on more recent versions were they are hampered by some kind of new file access system.
