Ahhh that explains it. The vast majority of eggs in the UK are free range, where hens have to have access to outside space.

I think you can get caged eggs still, so they'd be much cheaper.

That's insane. Sounds like your egg prices were being artificially kept low.

Don't knock it until you've tried it

Red herring is more when you follow something thinking it'll lead to something. Dead cat strategy is purely theatrical distraction. Like a magician they want you looking at what their doing with the right hand, rather than the card coming out of their left sleeve.

The person your replying to didn't say they were human traffickers etc, just that they had been charged with it. Which is true.

Considering the fact that they've been charged with these crimes is why their passports have been seezed is relevant to what's being reported. So ommiting any mention of that from the headline a choice.

Also if you just move your purchases to the day before or the day after all you're doing is very slightly messing up their forecasting. They're still getting your money, just earlier or later than that had expected.

A lot of continental Europeans drink UHT which only needs refrigerating once opened.

The facts are overwhelmingly against you, and the more people focus on the reality the worse it is for you and your case. Your best bet in these circumstances is to perform a manoeuvre that a great campaigner describes as "throwing a dead cat on the table, mate".

That is because there is one thing that is absolutely certain about throwing a dead cat on the dining room table – and I don't mean that people will be outraged, alarmed, disgusted. That is true, but irrelevant. The key point... is that everyone will shout "Jeez, mate, there's a dead cat on the table!"; in other words they will be talking about the dead cat, the thing you want them to talk about, and they will not be talking about the issue that has been causing you so much grief

He/She is fine for when you know the gender of someone. When you don't they is really well established - it was used by Chaucer. So they if you don't know because they might go by something else, they for someone with a name like Leslie who could be a he or a she outside of any discussion about trans identities.
