The US doesn't have that??? Backwards little Greece has had it for decades.

I can't tell if Carney making the Palestine announcement right before the deadline was a blunder or a calculated move.

That's the Soviet flag next to the ROC flag.

To note: the "peak of our civilization" he's talking about was 1999. Which is arguably kind of on point.

Oh yea? And where are the mainstream media articles with politicians being embarrassed about dealing with US tech companies? Where are the "EU voices alarm" pieces?

Whataboutism is one thing, willful ignorance of media bias is another.

But the EU is not actually contending anything.

This means: The EU is not actually challenging the US or China for global dominance. There is no actual European vision for the world. EU states are happy to find a way to play along with whatever the US want to do.

Anyway, cheers.

This means: I'm done talking about this have a nice day.

Like I said, not a lost cause. But I'm pessimistic based on what I'm seeing European politicians actually doing.

That said, I am not sure I buy the "beat chance" rhetoric, that's too Fukuyama-ist for my taste. History didn't end.

The EU has to earn its reputation as a champion of human rights and international law back. So far I haven't seen any movement towards that. It's not a lost cause yet but I am not optimistic.

Lost third spaces, hanging out with other kids and helicopter parenting/stranger danger.

Cool, so be super responsible on their part instead. If they can't be trusted to save up themselves, do the saving up of all the money yourself, o wise conservative. And let's put all that money in a trust fund for them and just give them the dividends. Let's call those dividends a "Universal Basic Dividend".

That's just tankie campism upside down.

In my post I literally take the side of the Hague Group. International law, UN courts, the Rome Statute, the rules based international order.

You want to push the West to be better? Take that side.

[Former first minister of Scotland Humza] Yousaf and his wife Nadia El-Nakla have said that their family in Gaza is starving, as they issued a plea to those in power to open the borders and let aid flow in.

The former first minister shared a video on social media on Wednesday, where the pair said the stories they were hearing from El-Nakla's side of the family in Gaza were "sickening" and "gut-wrenching".

They added that while governments "might stay silent" and refuse to act, "we won't".

The Reverend Sue Parfitt, from Bristol, was detained for holding a placard that read: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.” She was among more than 27 people arrested on Saturday for acts of defiance against the proscription.

Surveillance footage from a security camera recorded what happened outside the barbershop around 1:00 P.M. (DST): Rami al-Kukhun and the other young man are seen conversing calmly when suddenly a burst of gunfire is directed at them. The young man is shot in the leg but manages to escape. Al-Kukhun falls to the ground with his hands raised, and then an undercover officer dressed in a galabiyeh approaches him and fires several more bullets at him, the last at point-blank range.

Bob Vylan gets flak for supposedly preaching hatred and wishing death to the IDF at Glastonbury, as if wishing for the destruction of a genocidal army is the same as advocating for violence against people, much less a People.

Well, in 1998, Bob Dylan sung these lyrics, addressed to the "masters of war" :

And I hope that you die and your death will come soon
I will follow your casket by the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered down to your deathbed
And I'll stand over your grave 'til I'm sure that you're dead

Hear it here, on 37:04: https://youtu.be/fHE6XBWM_yA?t=2224

In a sense, Bob Dylan was in fact more extreme than Bob Vylan, since he's talking about actual dying people as opposed to institutions.

In any case, Bob Vylan with their "Death to the IDF" slogan is in very good company.

Women, children and elderly people among at least 24 killed by attack that turned beach spot into scene of carnage

“We are not for the death of Jews, Arabs or any other race or group of people. We are for the dismantling of a violent military machine,” the duo said on Instagram. “A machine whose own soldiers were told to use ‘unnecessary lethal force’ against innocent civilians waiting for aid. A machine that has destroyed much of Gaza. We, like those in the spotlight before us, are not the story. We are a distraction from the story. And whatever sanctions we receive will be a distraction.”
