Israeli media outlets released a video showing Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, inside detention, handcuffed and shackled, appearing exhausted and fatigued.

On December 28, 2024, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the Israeli army had arrested Abu Safiya from inside the hospital located in the northern governorate.

The Israeli military transferred Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, to detention under the “unlawful combatant” law instead of a regular trial, based on a decision issued by the so-called Southern Commander

"Egypt and Jordan believe they have successfully dissuaded US President Donald Trump from backing a forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and that the US has gotten behind an Egyptian post-war plan for the enclave, a senior Egyptian official told Middle East Eye.

“This will be an Egyptian plan adopted and supported by the Arabs,” the official said. “That is what Trump has agreed to.”

The Egyptian official, speaking to MEE on the condition of anonymity on Tuesday, said King Abdullah II of Jordan’s visit to Washington was critical to convincing Trump to ditch his plan to empty Gaza of Palestinians. Cairo and other Arab states viewed the outcome of Abdullah’s meeting as a win. "

An event in Berlin addressing issues surrounding Palestine and the ongoing conflict in Gaza was forcibly relocated on Tuesday by German police under intense political and police pressure, facing threats following the move, Anadolu Agency reports.

The “Reclaiming the Discourse: Palestine, Justice, and Truth” event, featuring UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese and prominent human rights figures, originally set to take place at Kuhlhaus Berlin, was moved to Junge Welt at Torstrabe 6 after the venue faced coercion from German politicians and Berlin police, Democracy in Europe Movement 2025 (DiEM25) said in a statement.

The event also featured Amnesty International’s Julia Duchrow, Medico International’s Riad Othman, and Jewish artists Eyal Weizman and Michael Barenboim.

"Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas’s chief negotiator, said in a speech on Tuesday that militants intend to hand over the remains of four Israeli hostages to Israel on Thursday in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners.

Mr. Hayya said that members of the Bibas family — some of the most well-known hostages worldwide — would be among the four bodies handed over to Israel on Thursday, without saying how many. The three remaining members of the Bibas family in Gaza are Shiri Bibas and her two children."

On Sunday, February 9th, Israeli police raided both branches of the East Jerusalem Educational Bookstore and arrested its owners, Mahmoud and Ahmed Muna. They were released on bail after two days in jail, but are banned from entering their stores for the next two weeks. During this difficult time, Mahmoud graciously agreed to talk with me about his experience.

To help with the legal costs Mahmoud and his family have incurred as a result of the raid, and the security they now need because of right-wing harassment, they have launched a GoFundMe Campaign.
