I'm in North America and my OnePlus 11 has good reception

No Googled device will be rid of it, you'd need to use a degoogled Android OS like LineageOS, GrapheneOS, etc., without installing GApps.

!degoogle@lemmy.ml has some good resources on degoogling

Well what's the list

https://sh.itjust.works/c/whitepeopletwitter seems to be the biggest fediverse whitepeopletwitter community with 5.62k subs. But it hasn't had an uptick in the last day since r/whitepeopletwitter got temp banned, so if it's a lifeboat, it's not a recent one

I mean, not with a Republican house, no. But surely this is what they'll spend time on anyway

I wonder who will win, the 41-year-old or the 38-year-old

r/PublicFreakout doesn't like this at all

Wouldn’t it be more effective if they flew American flags also? Protesting to stop deportation but flying the flag of the country they want to send you to doesn’t make sense to me.

I feel flying American flags would have more impact.

You know, this is why liberals lost and why we continue to lose. We refuse to try and understand our opposition and their feelings. Flying a flag of a different country and stopping traffic is not going to endear people to your cause.

The boot will come down, and I don't think we are ready for the fallout.

It's the best ad for Trump that he didn't pay for. Blocking traffic with foreign flags flying reduces sympathy for these people, and implies that Trump is correct that they don't belong. Protestors need to ask themselves what they want and how they can get it.

People’s livelihood depends on them getting to work, school, etc on time. All this does is piss people off who were on the fence with issues like this.

All I see are people flying a Mexican flag. If they want to counter the whole "immigrant invasion" narrative then maybe they should consider flying the American flag.

https://lemmy.bestiver.se/ is "an inclusive, SFW Lemmy instance, affiliated with the other Bestiverse sites". Its most active community, https://lemmy.bestiver.se/c/hackernews, has 583 daily users.

Their 3rd rule is "No Racists, Nazis, or Tankies", but they also federate with Hexbear and Lemmygrad, so "no tankies" probably just means no ultras

It's called bipartisanship, sweaty

A couple days ago, Trump illegally fired NLRB and EEOC appointees:

Trump fires EEOC and labor board officials, setting up legal fight

With this move, Trump has effectively shut down the NLRB's operations, leaving the workers it defends on their own, AFL-CIO president Liz Shuler said in a statement.

Time to start calling people who cry tankie feds

Request: Can we please whitelist one or more Rimgo instances for embedding images/videos in comments?

List of Rimgo instances, along with their data collection policies: https://codeberg.org/rimgo/instances#clearnet

I understand that we want to limit which sites are whitelisted for embedding, given embedding's history of abuse after Hexbear started federating, but since Imgur is already whitelisted, maybe Rimgo is okay to whitelist, too?

More info: I use Imgur to share videos with sound in Hexbear comments, because we cannot upload videos directly to Hexbear. Example:

Example Imgur video

However, Imgur often does not work for me (and likely many other Hexbear users) due to it often blocking VPNs. For that reason, I personally have the LibRedirect extension installed, which redirects any Imgur link I visit to a Rimgo equivalent (example: https://rimgo.kling.gg/aDD5Cf9.mp4). However, because Rimgo is not whitelisted for embedding, using it directly on Hexbear does not work:

Example of not working.

On a side note, if https://catbox.moe/ becomes whitelisted for embedding, we would not need to use Imgur or Rimgo anymore for video hosting. Catbox is generally better than Imgur for video hosting, since Imgur limits videos to 1 minute.

As the WGA leadership and members move forward on the scribes’ tentative agreement with the studios and streamers, the 160,000-strong actors union could be sitting down with the AMPTP within days.

Riding the momentum that has hit Hollywood since the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers struck a deal on September 24, SAG-AFTRA leaders have penciled in meetings with the Carol Lombardini-led group by the end of next week, we hear.

As always in labor relations, the situation is fluid, and no negotiation has truly started until all participants are seated at the bargaining table. “We have no confirmed dates scheduled and there will not be meetings with the AMPTP this week,” a SAG-AFTRA spokesperson said Tuesday. “When we do have dates confirmed, we will inform our members. No one should rely on speculation.”

The AMPTP did not respond to Deadline’s requests for comment on the potential meetings.

The actors union has been on strike since July 14, when its members joined the WGA on the picket lines, creating Hollywood’s first joint strike since the Kennedy administration. The writers have suspended picketing and are awaiting details about their deal, which could come today or tomorrow.

WGA leaders on both coasts are scheduled to vote today on whether to send the tentative agreement to the general membership for ratification. If that occurs as expected, a vote by the nearly 12,000 members of the guild could come within several days, and a “yes” from them would end the WGA strike.

But the actors remain on the picket lines for now as both unions have pledged and shown solidarity with each other throughout the current labor strife.

While the WGA and SAG-AFTRA share similar concerns about AI, residuals and data transparency, to name a few, the actors union has some individual concerns that need to be addressed in its contract talks.

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher has been vocal and passionate in her rhetoric, saying, among other things, that “the AMPTP’s maniacal corporate culture for greed must stop.” Meanwhile, the union’s National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland has made many public appearances, including at the Toronto Film Festival, to talk up his side’s point of view.

Meanwhile, SAG-AFTRA members voted unanimously on Monday to authorize a strike against the video game industry, citing concerns including “the exploitative uses of AI and lagging wages.”

The union’s Chief Contracts Officer Ray Rodriguez said: “This strike authorization makes an emphatic statement that we must reach an agreement that will fairly compensate these talented performers, provide common-sense safety measures, and allow them to work with dignity. Our members’ livelihoods depend on it.”

Based on monthly users, Hexbear should be 7th, but we're listed as 9th.

Also, there's no users graph on Hexbear's the-federation.info page, either.

Complaints about Hexbear in Hexbear defederation posts often talk about emoji size. Even complaints about PPB are usually talking about how big it is. And I mean it's true, that emoji, among others, is massive on non-Hexbear instances.

on Hexbear: ppb on hexbear

on other instances: ppb on other instances

Obviously PPB and the rest of our culture is cool and good, but it is silly to be defederated because of an emoji scaling bug. Surely we can find cooler reasons to be defederated

It's been over a day of federation. Does it take longer, or does someone have to manually add Hexbear?

UPS has put $30 billion in new money on the table as a direct result of these negotiations. We’ve changed the game, battling it out day and night to make sure our members won an agreement that pays strong wages, rewards their labor, and doesn’t require a single concession. This contract sets a new standard in the labor movement and raises the bar for all workers.

Highlights of the tentative 2023-2028 UPS Teamsters National Master Agreement include:

  • Historic wage increases. Existing full- and part-time UPS Teamsters will get $2.75 more per hour in 2023, and $7.50 more per hour over the length of the contract.

  • Existing part-timers will be raised up to no less than $21 per hour immediately, and part-time seniority workers earning more under a market rate adjustment would still receive all new general wage increases.

  • General wage increases for part-time workers will be double the amount obtained in the previous UPS Teamsters contract — and existing part-time workers will receive a 48 percent average total wage increase over the next five years.

  • Wage increases for full-timers will keep UPS Teamsters the highest paid delivery drivers in the nation, improving their average top rate to $49 per hour.

  • Current UPS Teamsters working part-time would receive longevity wage increases of up to $1.50 per hour on top of new hourly raises, compounding their earnings.

  • New part-time hires at UPS would start at $21 per hour and advance to $23 per hour.

  • All UPS Teamster drivers classified as 22.4s would be reclassified immediately to Regular Package Car Drivers and placed into seniority, ending the unfair two-tier wage system at UPS.

  • Safety and health protections, including vehicle air conditioning and cargo ventilation. UPS will equip in-cab A/C in all larger delivery vehicles, sprinter vans, and package cars purchased after Jan. 1, 2024. All cars get two fans and air induction vents in the cargo compartments.

  • All UPS Teamsters would receive Martin Luther King Day as a full holiday for the first time.

  • No more forced overtime on Teamster drivers’ days off. Drivers would keep one of two workweek schedules and could not be forced into overtime on scheduled off-days.

  • UPS Teamster part-timers will have priority to perform all seasonal support work using their own vehicles with a locked-in eight-hour guarantee. For the first time, seasonal work will be contained to five weeks only from November-December.

  • The creation of 7,500 new full-time Teamster jobs at UPS and the fulfillment of 22,500 open positions, establishing more opportunities through the life of the agreement for part-timers to transition to full-time work.

  • More than 60 total changes and improvements to the National Master Agreement — more than any other time in Teamsters history — and zero concessions from the rank-and-file.

Hexbear seems to have switched to using Service Workers today, which breaks Hexbear for me entirely, as a private-browsing-only user.

Even if I'm using a default Firefox profile with no extensions added or settings changed, Hexbear will not load in private browsing.

This is intended Firefox behavior, as using Service Workers will always write to the disk in order to work.

So if Hexbear continues to use Service Workers, please specify somewhere that browsing Hexbear requires Chrome/a Chrome derivative.

Edit: Fixed!

I mentioned yesterday that a Lemmy dev was busy plugging Lemmy in the Apollo thread about :reddit-logo:'s API pricing. The ~~reddit admins~~ r/apolloapp mods went and deleted 118 of their 120 comments:

As you can see on Lemmy dev parentis_shotgun's profile, they were very active plugging Lemmy and answering questions in the Apolo dev's thread about Reddit's API pricing, with 120 total comments made in that post.

They were well-received, with 3 of their comments getting over 400 upvotes. However, ~~reddit admins~~ r/apolloapp mods must have noticed that reddit is bleeding users to Lemmy, because all but 2 of parentis_shotgun's 120 comments (one about Beehaw and one about Microsoft) in that thread are removed.

:reddit-logo: knows its days are numbered, their IPO later this year will fall flat on its face

Edit: ~~Someone~~ @ImOnADiet on Lemmygrad says it was just r/apolloapp mods
Edit 2: @dessalines posted about it
