Yes but if ente goes bankrupt even if the code is open and free (AGPLv3 if I remember correctly) it doesn't mean that it will find maintainers and even if it does the nooby customers will have a hard time knowing and transfering to the new repo/fork. For these online services I totally understand that people prefer stability and sustainabilty over privacy. Remember CTemplar, Skiff, etc..? Companies like Proton, Standard Notes, have proven that you can run a privacy business for over a decade but that does not mean every privacy product or services will sustain that long.

Yes ente is still new and haven't released v1 yet but they are doing awesome work and I'm currently trying it, I hope they will sustain well and keep there mission's core for the years to come !

Cryptobros aren't really present on there, at least I never encounter such people. But it's mainly a "Bitcoiner Bubble" and that's why I have some issue with staying on there regularly, I don't like mind-bubbles. However there is some amazing experimentation on there with Value4Value or tipping sats (fractions of bitcoins) instead of liking, local-side open source algorithmes that you can choose and change and the thing I'm most excited about is Ditto which is a community server that act as a Nostr relay AND an ActivityPub instance.

I think Nostr is superior to ActivityPub because you don't need accounts, it's authentification is based on asymetrical cryptographic keys which enable digital identities without a central server. However I use the Fediverse more because it is more mature, less mind-bubble and fucking better than commercial, centralized plateforms with opaque algorithmes that you have no control over.

Cryptee started in 2017, so around 8 years, I think it can be said that the are not new commers. It's not as old as Proton of course but yeah I think you can not say they haven't been around for long enough. ente started in 2020 so it's been 5 years I think it's starting to be fair to assume they can be sustainable for the comming years but it's still relatively new of course.

Look at what nostr community is doing with zaps, I think it's cool

I don't use Google account on most of my devices. I have an older phone on LineageOS 22.1 that I use mainly to test apps. It has GApps installed but I never sign in. I have faced a couple apps that on startup are launching the PlayStore app and ask me to sign in, I guess for "security". Is there a way to bypass that ? I don't want to link my Google profile and would love to use this app offline like I should.

Is this something that could be done with LuckyPatcher ? Is there easier methods ?

Well it's from my experience during lockdown when I started to dualboot Linux and Windows with an NVidia GPU and some benchmarks I've seen on YouTube recently.

How a CPU bottleneck could happen on an OS and not on another ?

Riseup VPN is not a commercial VPN and works in a different way that most VPN, basically it allow you to root traffic through their foundation's servers. You have no guarantee to have great speed at any time or based on your current geolocation. Remember that a VPN does not bring privacy or anonymity but yes for a free VPN it's better than the majority of options.

When playing the exact same games on the exact same machine with NVidia GPU you can get 8-20% better performance on Windows compared to Linux. On the AMD side you can get up to 5% boost on Linux, that's just the reality. Though you could also loose 5% performance compared to Windows in some games.

And to answer your question it should have been around 2022.

Yes it is free as in free beer, it connect to a network based on an open protocole of federated free (as in freedom) software instances. It also value users privacy and respect their digital integrity, could do more to that but it's not even comparable to reddit lol. It's not black or white.

I didn't say that it has to. It's my choice to choose an option that respect my freedom. I have no issue with Arctic and it being proprietary. I simply use it to test the client and not interact extensively with the fediverse. One of the reason I like the Fediverse it's because it's Free Software as in Freedom, and that's the same reason why I like Free and Open Source Clients for the Fediverse. I use proprietary software in my life and I can live with that.

Except in the freedom way :) But yes probably the best client iPhone users have.

I have been using ChimeraOS on my living room PC and it has worked well most of the time without issues. Recently I had audio stuttering on a new game and fixed it by using an older Proton build. But then I started a game that I have played many hours on this machine without any issue and suddenly had audio stuttering again on this title that previously had no audio issue with. Then I realized it is a problem with most of my library... This is really annoying for some title.

Anyone experienced something similar recently ? I have updated ChimeraOS twice since and updated the Proton Experimental build etc... Don't know if it is related to Proton, to a driver, to Chimera... How could I debug this ?

Pretty much the title. I installed my GOG games through Lutris and wanted to rapidly import them to Steam. Same for emulated ROM. Do you have advices ?

Would like to see open source client such as Infinity, Stealth, RedReader, etc... going to lemmy.

The best case scenario would be all reddit client including Apollo, Boost, etc... supporting the transition to lemmy but this is quite unlikely unfortunately...

SimpleMobileTools are making simple yet great open source android apps. No ads, no trackers, cheap price or even free. I personnaly love Simple Gallery Pro and have a lot of respect for the devs, I would like to donate since they accept cryptos... unfortunately only BTC, ETH and LTC. Let them heard of the benefits of Monero so I (and maybe you) could donate to them for their work !

I recently discover NowPayments which looks like a cool services but does not suit well with a Monero mindset. I understand that it will have some compromises for using a service like that no matter how serious the ones running it are. I was just wondering if their was a simple way for a commerce to be paid in euro/dollar or whatever currency is prefered and that the customer uses XMR without comprimising any information on his/her side.

Often people tend to say due to the lack of funding open source apps have bad UI and also sometimes terrible UX. While it’s not entierly false I’ve found myself some beautifuly designed apps and wanted to share them here.
