I’ll try to do the best I can. The Kennedy Center has long been revered as one of the most prestigious auditoriums in the nation. If you performed there you “made it” and were one of the top performers of your field. Pianists and other musicians, classical singers, etc.

Well recently Trump fired the board and put in his lackeys that instated him as the chair. The “J6 choir” I believe was a group of people who were in prison for their attempts to overthrow the government on January 6th and were subsequently jailed.

I’m sure you can see where this is going from here but we’ve gone from the best of the best performing there to a political stunt of people who tried to overthrow the government and don’t have the talent behind it.

Did you have a 401k or an IRA? Where did you put it to not get taxed on it?

[–] ramble81@lemm.ee 7 points 3 days ago

Welp, at least I can claim them as a loss on my taxes this year.

How much is Pi-hole worth it assuming I’m using UBO and also have most non-ad based streaming services?

I’m thinking phones and less often used devices?

I keep patiently waiting but I’m so ready to ditch this place.

It’s still more purple. Remember, land doesn’t vote. You may be able to gerrymander state and congressional seats, but governor and president are still the entire state. My hopes is it keeps moving more blue, but then you get the Hispanics in the valley who vote against their own interests.

Why not just embed them with their own 12V power connector and PSU at this point

One of the reasons I actually like Apple Pay (besides the convenience) is the fact that it randomly tokenizes your information so stores can’t track you as easily. That’s why the push for loyalty programs so they can continue to track you where they can’t by card anymore.

Game was great and it’s interesting how many ideas are coming to pass. I know with most dystopian works it’s based on a taking results of reality to the extreme, but it still ended up real good.

I love how it looks like they took one of their old huts and just plopped it on top of the building.

Only reason I know about Samizdat is because of Deus Ex.

I was thinking about Rome and there is one place that’s a 17th century church, on top of 14th century monastery on top of a 1st century apartment. And if you go to the Forum section it’s visibly below the surface of the current city.

For the fact that the city has been active for thousands of years, how do things end up getting buried? Does that mean the elevation of the city is higher now than it was in 0 AD?

I was listening to a Weird Al song about prank calls and realized you can’t really do them anymore now. Also it was funny that he mentioned dialing 7 digit numbers instead of 10

Or do you prefer other adjectives? Do you consider it to be insulting or do you take it for a compliment if it was meant as one? (Assume an amenable relationship between the two people, not a random stranger or creeper)

Due to its asynchronous and discreet nature, people don’t have to be in physical proximity or expect immediate responses.

I don’t like to sleep in near pitch black rooms. It just feels unnatural to me. It may be more the fact that it prevents the gradual transition to daylight unless you’re using an artificial light, so that bothers me more because you don’t know when morning is. But even when traveling I love to keep the curtains open through the night and sleep to whatever the natural light level is around me even if it’s in the middle of a city.

Well this is interesting. I plugged my phone into my computer to pull some photos off of it and I just happen to start browsing it via Windows Explorer since the device shows up there. Imagine my surprise when I saw things that were in my Hidden folder show up clear as day. It seems that lock is only at an application level and just browsing the file system it’s there to see.

Does anyone else experience something similar? Is there a note I missed that it’s still be available via other means?

In previous versions I could set the nsfw blur settings (Settings > Apperance > Blur NSFW) for my feed on a per account basis. This was good for having a nsfw and a sfw account that I could easily switch between. As of 2.12.4, it seems this setting is now global forcing me to have to switch it each time i switch accounts. This can also be problematic if i forget to re-enable the blur when switching back to my sfw account.

Is there any way to see a list of communities either on the instance you’re subscribed to, or better still a remote instance? I can go to Local and New posts to see what’s been posted, but that’s really about it. Even if there’s a way to see communities of an instance you have an account on, I wouldn’t want to sign up for multiple instances just to get a list on each one, then flip back to my main account to subscribe to them.

In the US for example the standard is 110V for voltage and 80psi for water. In Europe, voltage is 220V, is water pressure different there too?

Quite often you see people saying “tourists need to go home” or “we need less tourists” and there are some valid issues with how people can be, but overall, having tourists is a good thing. It shows that the middle class actually has means of traveling. It also tends to stimulate a local economy with additional revenue and can offset taxes for locals through hotel and other tourism fees. Those that do travel also tend to develop a broader world view then being in their own little sphere.

A reduction in tourism means that only the rich will end up traveling, and everyone else will be stuck only in the place they’re born, relegated mainly to pictures and videos “of a far off land” and will foster deeper divides of “well that’s just them over there” instead of getting to experience it firsthand.

Let’s say I hit submit on a post or reply, and then immediately notice a typo and edit it. Or I accidentally mis-swipe and downvote and then change it to an upvote.

In both cases, do both actions immediately get posted to the feed, or does the Lemmy instance wait a minute and combine (or overwrite) the actions so that only a single action gets published?

How long do you plan on wearing a mask for? Will it be for the rest of your life? What will change your view?

This isn’t meant to be inflammatory. There’s someone at work who wears one everyday and I’m too afraid to ask them.
