We're just circling back to the fact that WMR is a tiny subset though. You're holding Linux to an impossible standard that you aren't holding the maker of your headset (API) too.

You've talked about Linux as if it should meet these lofty goals, but what you're failing to recognise is that Microsoft pays teams of hundreds to thousands of developers, and Linux is completely free and donation/grant-based. So of course it isn't going to be perfect, and of course it isn't going to support every little niche.

Your concept that because of its open nature it should support everything from the history of gaming and computing is an unreasonable expectation. Old laptops work well so people who wouldn't otherwise have access to a computer can get something working for very little money, and because those devices are prolific. But even then almost all distros have deprecated 32-bit support.

From what I've seen, almost all advice about making the switch to Linux is along the lines of "try it out" or "dual-boot Windows" so I fail to see how anyone is going to be seriously inconvenienced here.

As well, marketing in general is full of embellishments to the truth. Microsoft lies, Google lies, Apple lies. To turn around and say that Linux isn't ready for gaming when (using your charitable 10% figure) 0.2% of gamers won't be able to use it, is ridiculous.

You got lied too by Microsoft on the promise of hardware support and they pulled the plug. It feels like now you're trying to lay the blame at Linux' feet instead of copping that on the chin.

If someone said "Islam has all the moral authority of a pedophilic prophet", it would probably be the same reaction.

Except it's not quite the same. Catholicism is not a religion, Christianity is. Many/most religions have sects that should be admonished for reprehensible behaviour, while not disparaging the wider religion. Zionists also come to mind.

(This is all said by someone who was raised in the Catholic church.)

Okay here's what I'm going to posit to you: If you truly care about e-waste, then your stance here is a disservice to that goal. This year, Win10 reaches the end of its service life, and millions upon millions of computers will become "e-waste" unless a switch to Linux is made. This includes countless gaming rigs. Nothing is ever going to reach 100% compatibility, and to argue it should is disingenuous. Right now we need to be working on convincing people that for the vast majority of use cases, Linux is VR-ready, and more broadly gaming ready. Doing so will also help the development of those minority use cases as the overall platform gains momentum.

I do understand that it isn't VR-ready for you but I don't think it's fair to generalise that to everyone else.

I don't think you need to be super flexible with Multiplayer as long as they aren't competitive games. Here's some multiplayer games I've played flawlessly in the last 12 months: Baldur's Gate III, Webfishing, Deep Rock Galactic, Atlyss and Stardew Valley. It really depends on the genre I think.

Tbf I thought the same for a few seconds too until I realised those girls were ready to pop.

I'm like an 8 or 9. I find the vast majority of girls pretty, but it's only the occasional guy I'm checking out.

Also, you are more than welcome here imo! I think the comm should be for discussing sapphic/wlw things generally.

As a German who was taught all the dark times of our nation in school, I can confidently say that us causing the second War To End All Wars is almost as bad as this company's behaviour.

Yikes friend... this reads like a different flavour of holocaust denial...

A bunch of people were trying to make that argument to explain Hellwig's disagreement, but it was never the case. His argument amounted to "you can't make create unified code to reference mine, you must have each driver maintain its own independent calls to my code".

Here's the thing though, is Marcan got called out (rightfully) for his shit by Linus, but Linus could have called out Hellwig in the same email. The lack of that, to my reading, felt like implicit support of Hellwig's position to me, and I can see why Marcan would have felt the same way.

In saying that, it would also be fair for Linus to not "give in to the pressure" of Marcan's actions on social media and basically given him what he wanted.

At some point, projects just become too big to fork. But it's still talked about as the be all, end all of dealing with open source disputes. Rather than people actually just having reasonable and meaningful discussions.

Hey, I just wanted to make a post because I noticed the !lesbians@lemmy.blahaj.zone community now has no moderators at all. The one mod was instance banned. I think it would be good if we could have some admin intervention to install a new head moderator. I'm not personally feeling able to put my paw up for that, so if any other blahaj user is up for taking it on please comment here :)

I was banned from lemmy.world for “personal attacks” for 3 days because of calling someone a “piece of shit” after they called me a “cunt”. The comment calling me a cunt wasn’t removed and the user hasn’t been punished at all by the lemmy.world admins.

The comments in question:

Lemmy.world modlog:

In the interest of full disclosure, this is my other comment that was removed:

And here’s the comment of that user I was referencing, in the Blahaj modlog after it was removed:

This feels like an overreach, especially when the admin clearly didn’t feel it was important to punish their own user for “personal attacks” in the same thread.

please don’t start shit in the comments, i’m too disabled to care

Hey friends, I see you just pushed another test flight build, cheers for all the new updates. However, I just tried changing the App Icon and it doesn’t work at all, just stays on the default one. I tried a bunch to see if it was just one of them glitching out, but none of them work.
