No, thank you! I love any opportunity to share spood info, and orbweavers are amazing! The fact that they use their webs as giant ear drums (no seriously, watch the videos!) blew me away when I saw it.

And there's so much I learned about spiders growing up that's just plain wrong but still repeated, it's exciting never knowing what new thing you'll learn (or old misconception you'll UNlearn) when you start looking into spiders and their behaviors.

OK I better shut up and leave before someone asks me about jumping spiders.

I do too.

Be blown away by Orbweavers

A whole video on just their webs

Travis McEnery's entire channel is gold

Bonus pic of a friend's wild caught Orbweaver that they've been rehabbing indoors after they watched it get stung by a wasp caught in its web on their back porch:

Apologize accepted 🤝

A cellphone shot of the gorgeous aurora tonight. It wasn't quite this dramatic to the naked eye, but this is actually pretty representative of what we could see. I have a bunch of other pics too but I'm sure there will be pics everywhere tomorrow from better photographers.

If you've never seen cannabonsai before, check this guy's channel out. Even if you don't grow yourself, the process is fascinating and the results are gorgeous!

"PORTLAND, Ore. — Multnomah County is investigating a second suspected heat death as a heat wave continues to push temperatures into the triple-digit range.

A Portland-area hospital reported the death Tuesday when temperatures in the city soared to 102. The county did not specify how the person arrived at the hospital.

This is the second suspected heat death related to the mid-August heat wave. The first involved a person found dead in Southeast Portland on Monday. The county medical examiner’s office is working to confirm whether the cause of both deaths was heat-related.

Multnomah County has opened cooling shelters over the past few days, and also ramped up outreach to seniors and other vulnerable people who may not have air conditioning. A spokesperson said those groups have been at most risk in recent heat events - like the 2021 heat dome."

Portland, Oregon's freeway network is only a fraction of what was originally planned. This documentary takes a look at three proposed freeways that were nearly built, the neighborhood revolts that led to their cancellation, and remnants of these projects that are still visible today.

This YouTuber does a whole series of these short documentaries on Oregon history that are just great

She was started late, grown outdoors & I grudgingly had to chop her early. She’s the only plant I’ve grown that had jet black leaves, and the contrast with the bright green buds was just neat.
