their immune system will just destroy them again.

Genetic engineering could solve this right? Just "reprogram" the immune system to not kill the new pancreas.

There is some progress with different approaches like 3d-printed scaffolds

This seems like a good route to take.

That is a lot of capital expenditure for a cure, where instead, they could just keep charging you an arbitrary amount of money for regular insulin, which is a process that has been perfected ages ago.

This is why we need xi-clap

From what I see:

PR campaigns to try to "convince people with ideas" to change their ways is definitely more on the idealistic side.

Tech that fundamentally changes the means of production of a fundamental commodity in local, regional, national, and international markets seems more on the materialist side.

but the UK, where the mass media approach has been tried, has more than twice as many vegetarians per capita than the US.

I wonder how much of this is due to immigration from South Asia, where the rates of vegetarianism are higher.

Cuba has basically solved lung cancer, yet this is not made available to everyone.

fidel-cool

Don't despair. Yeah it feels glacial, but it's moving :)

Honestly I'm hoping the global south will lead the way in this and just say 'fuck you' to patent and other intellectual property bullshit.

But our individual bodies do have a best befofe date that I am pretty sure we can't fully override with science.

I'm kind of hoping that things like anti-aging/youth restoration actually get some legit results, not for the beauty aspect, but because age makes diseases/injuries/etc. worse and harder to recover from.

Like I notice there is a huge push for prevention, which is fantastic, but that kind of feels like taking all the people who are already suffering from intractable conditions and throwing them under the bus.

Like when are we gonna actually get lab grown kidneys, livers, tendons, and all that shit that would immediately help so many people? I remember at the beginning of this century stem cells were all the rage, but I haven't seen anything groundbreaking. Every "promising" study said that treatments (perhaps cures) were "5 to 10 years" away.

We can send a probe to the south pole of the moon but if you have back pain then it's basically "fuck you here's some pain meds but we're not gonna actually fix your issue... maybe try to do some physical therapy and get out of my office" kind of shit. Or "You got diabetes? too bad no cure here's some $8k insulin." And "Oh you tore your miniscus? Well just 'take it easy' and do some leg exercises and I'll do some surgery on it, but it'll never be back to 100% so get the fuck out of my office and here's a bill for $3k." Or "oh it seems you have carpal tunnel and some tendon/ligament damage... i guess you could do some surgey and some 'hand exercises' but it'll never be the same as it was before, oh btw here's a bill for $5k."

Even something not as critical like hair loss (which is psychologically damaging for men and especially so for women) still relies on the good old "go to Turkey to get a hair transplant. oh you want to actually grow your original hair back? too bad, even though we should have figured out that shit using stem cells by now."

That's not even mentioning the people suffering from things like chronic fatigue or long covid. They are basically tossed aside like a bad batch of vegetables. "oh yeah this batch is fucked, oh well maybe better luck with the next batch!"

I know I'm just venting here, but what's the fucking deal? Are we actually going to have legit regenerative medicine? Or will it always be "5 to 10 years away" for the rest of eternity?

Jeremy Loffredo visits the scorched town of Lahaina, Hawaii and meets survivors of one of the worst mass casualty disasters on American soil in recent history. The mostly indigenous locals tell Loffredo why they believe the fires were no accident, and vent their rage at the wealthy developers and investment firms they view as a flock of vultures circling over the ruins of their community.

No, those who are lead to reactionary figures is irregardless of dating someone.

That seems essentialistic.

Not to mention so many of these people that complain about this are below 22, at which dating is viewed as uncommon among most of the normal population anyway

??? What are you talking about?

Think weight classes in boxing and the ranking of within them. It doesn't need to be so

Yeah like Street Fighter. Which of course the Gamer(TM) types have no problem with when they play with a girl character... But put a trans woman in there an all of a sudden they explode.

They just need to combined all sports and make them genderless. In cases like boxing just go by weight class, since they do that for men and women's leagues anyways.

At this point the word incel has basically multiple meanings. It can be a legitimate state of being (in fact the person who came up with the term was a woman) or a knee-jerk insult. It's basically just like the term tankie.

Yeah I know who he is. He actually had trouble with women even though he had backstage passes as a writing for rolling stone magazine. It wasn't until after he learned the dating skills that he was able to be better with women.

They both had mustaches, cogito ergo sumus este:

THEY ARE BOTH FASCISTS!!

Take that logic bomb TANKIES smuglord

Please join our lemmy instance over at programming.dev! NO TANKIES ALLOWED! We only accept NATO supporting members! When joining just answer "yes" to the NATO pledge and join us for some ANTI-WOKE programming!

They are just socialists on a more national, local level. So they're basically just like "grow and buy local" liberals that oppose the fascist Drumpf! To those red fascist tankies in the room, LEARN TO READ GERMAN you TANKIES! smuglord

To the non-tankies interested, join us on our lemmy instance where we discuss, among other things: epic bacon memes, i fucking love science videos, and a whole host of other mid to late 2000s internet humor because our brains are stuck in that era and we became the boomers we hated so much!

EDIT: Thanks for the reddit gold everyone!!

I didn't feel like getting into it but my god.... People are really buying in to the whole Bidenomics bullshit

Unironically what a lib-brainwormed blahaj/lemmy user would probably do and/or support... Go to another country like a white savior but actually make things worse for the local LGBTQ community...

I hope I don't get castrated for this by everyone here but I'm genuinely curious so I'm going to ask. For coxtext, I'm a dirty commie removed hippie dick suckin left wing lib (not a meme, I am literally a Liberal Democrat). Now that that's out of the way, I'd like to ask someone who disagrees with me why they think that supporting Ukraine is a bad move? The way I see it, the longer this war goes on, the weaker Russia gets. Sure it's costing the US (and other countries) a lot of money and resources but we are essentially weakining a not-so-friendly country of ours without having to send our own troops to fight it. Why is this a bad thing? Should I not care if Russia gets more powerful than it already is? Am I removed?

From all the concern trolling I see in the other instances it's clear that there's no winning over these people. Everything is "Kremlin propaganda" to them. I do think a lot of chapos did go a little overboard with the PPB, but even thoughtful responses were met with the "hateful rhetoric" and "Kremlin talking points" BS. As always, it is to the Global South we must look to for any hope in the future...

Must watch for any non-hexbear and lemmygrad instance users that are looking for a better explanation as to what lead to the Ukraine conflict. Spread it far and wide!
