We are all witnessing a master class in fucking with the trans community, that’s what’s going on

The short version is the a user, initially “dragon fucker”, who then changed their name to “dragon rider” to make the bit less obvious, was the embodiment of the “Apache attack helicopter gender identity” meme.

The premise of their identity is that they fuck dragons, and their pronouns are “drag”. This is, on its face, hilariously delusional at absolute best and a troll at worst.

My list of issues with drag is long, but some of their greatest hits:

Reporting everyone who didn’t play along with them as transphobic. This caused issues over at Bahaj who, bless their heart, gave drag the benefit of the doubt.

Harassing users in DMs, up to and including pictures of themselves saying “bet you would like some of my girlcock” or something to that affect

Things get a little conspiratorial past this line

I’ve been around Lemmy for a while now, and after seeing drag talk, I am 100% convinced they’re another iteration of an equally terrible user called DroneRights.

It was the same MO, their “gender” was that they were a “drone” in a “hive mind”. Again, patently absurd and should never have been taken seriously, except they would regularly try to get users banned for being “transphobic”.

I think all of this is just a bit to subtract from actual trans issues, which is exactly what it did. It reframed the discussion around gender identity and pronouns on Lemmy to “oh but what about “xenogenders”, and “neo-pronouns”, which is like…. Just the epitome of what the left gets made fun of for at this point.

It all ended with drag getting banned from blahaj for sharing DMs with the admin, though I’m sure it was a straw that broke the camels back kind of situation

I hypothesize we see another, similarly deranged account within a few weeks and the cycle will continue.

It’ll move in the direction of local rendering, with cloud “AI” powered elements

It confuses me how a company can basically invent an entire category of hardware, then proceed to do absolutely everything as terribly as possible after that.

New Cisco firewalls? Fucking suck.

Cisco switches? Good hardware, but they haven’t evolved configuration wise since like the mid 2000s, and licensing costs as much as the switch, for foreign based support that doesn’t even understand the question.

The ENTIRE FTD platform is an absolute insult to engineering and should single handedly be responsible for bankrupting Cisco, imo.

Hush, your bullshit only works in your echo chamber

Quarantine the county, let it run its course

No they didn’t, and that’s very sad and entirely the fault of their negligent parents

Is it bad that I’m not torn up about a “close knit, unvaccinated” community catching diseases? As long as they stay over there they can die together and leave the rest of us alone.

It’s all comes down to money and assets. The way it works in the US is, broadly, they get half of your shit unless you signed a prenup.

This is ironically a callback to old school patriarchal structures where a woman divorcing her husband often did not have any marketable skill sets because they were housewives. The courts saw fit to have the husband continue providing for them until they are self supporting- conceptually.

~~Less than helpful advice probably, but the only way to truly be independent it to wean yourself off of the chemical dependency~~

This is an L comment and deserves the downvotes.

What’s funny about that is Reddit is mostly just an advertising front for onlyfans at this point

Bazzite was a 15 minute experience for me, from first boot to playing X4 foundations and sea of thieves.

Take the leap.

Honestly I migrated to bazzite about a month ago and my entire library has just… worked. It was shockingly easy. I haven’t changed anything from defaults at all.

Like, honestly. What a joke of an admin.

This comment was in response to someone expressing regret about joining .ml if I recall correctly

Edit: I'm convinced all this guy does is camp out in front of his computer and wait for an excuse to abuse what itty bitty power he has.

Edit: changed post to use Imgur link instead of downloading a file

What a bunch of fucking babies, lol

Alternative link in case media doesn’t load

Update: so, the responses this far are almost universally that these bots have been blocked by users of the community. There is also a general disinterest in defederating, which is on brand.

You guys wanna do a poll or something or?

I’d like to lead my thoughts with a quote from the admins regarding bots within lemm.ee:

“Bots must not be responsible for the majority of content in any community”

There are two entire instances that immediately spring to mind, zerobytes.monster’s b0t user, and lemmit.online. Their content is quite literally 90% bot content with 0 engagement, and they spam constantly.

Now here at lemm.ee we generally don’t defend from stuff, that’s actually why I prefer this instance. Yes, you can block the bot users and that solves the problem, but hear me out:

These bots ruin the experience on Lemmy for new users. They spam so many posts, attempting to block them from a mobile app will usually crash the app. If you’re a new user coming to Lemm.ee sorting by all, you see tons and tons of empty posts.

Zerobytes is particularly egregious because it doesn’t even repost actual content, just thousands and thousands of links to Reddit posts. It’s a spam instance, period, and I feel strongly about this.

Lemmit.online isn’t quite as bad, but it’s an entire instance dedicated to spam reposting everything from Reddit. All the posts have zero engagement, and the comment value is gone so everything decent gets buried.

Yes there are ways around this on an individual user level, but then you’re creating a context where there’s even less engagement in the vast majority of “new” posts.

Anyway, thems my thoughts. Repost bots are stupid, one that drive traffic to Reddit are even worse. Thoughts?

This post is inspired by a conversation I had with another user earlier that, after some reflection, raised an interesting point.

When telling a user about Lemmy, trying to bring them into the fold if you will, what would be the best go to link? Think of reddit.com/r/all, but for Lemmy.

In theory, any instance will work as long as it has a large enough user base to have people subscribed to other large isntances, but having a solid landing page to point new users towards definitely has some merit.

Thoughts?

Are we just stuck with browsers for the time being? I mean it works but fuck I miss Apollo already.
